  1. Admittedly I haven't read over the entire thread, just the last few pages, so if that's the case then I see what you mean. This movie is shaping up to look a lot like TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION in terms of the domestic box office: around $100M opening weekend and $240M- $250M total. It's clearly the overseas box office that's going to be fun to watch with this one.
  2. I think what some people are saying about the F8 numbers is fair, personally. I, too, expected an obvious decrease from the box office explosion of F7, but a more substantial increase over F6. Yes, this is the 8th film in the franchise, but it's been on a clear upward trajectory since 5. Thus, below $100M or around that mark does feel a bit muted considering F6 did close to a $100M OW back in 2013. I think $110M to $120M was a reasonable expectation, given the size and scope and popularity of this franchise. I'm obviously talking about domestic, by the way. Clearly this movie is going to be an overwhelming success overall. Also, I'm not saying it's a failure domestically either! Just trying to point out why it's reasonable to have expected a bigger opening weekend. There is no need to be so black and white here. Just because people are questioning the opening weekend, nobody is whining or saying it flopped or whatever. This is called a discussion.
  3. Aka "I don't like these movies so the fact that millions of people around the world are watching the new one and setting box office records is pathetic and stupid".
  4. I'm going to echo other people's sentiments about this. The key word with this movie is FUN! It's the kind of movie you could easily nitpick to death, but between the action, humour, and even a few intense, dark scenes, it was an absolute thrill ride through and through! Don't know why some have said Theron was wasted in this. No way! She's a psycho villain that will chill you to the bone. Lastly, I was someone who griped about Statham's character teaming up with the crew - I hate this never ending plot device that the crew ends up winning over the villain and they all become best buds - but at least the reasoning here is actually decent. It makes sense. It's not like Deckard Shaw was just seduced by the awesomeness of the crew. Anyway, had a lot of fun tonight! It helped that I saw it in D-Box as well. D-Box and Fast movies go together like peanut butter and jam!
  5. So $44M to $50M opening day? I'm betting on closer to $50M. I realize this is coming down big time from FURIOUS 7 but I'd be really surprised to see the opening weekend finish below $100M.
  6. That's a great idea. I'd love a Fast film set in Australia! I also want the Canadian Rockies to get some love!
  7. Is that an opening day record in China?
  8. It's all about expectations. If you go in expecting a deep movie that resonates with you beyond blowing you away with the action, action which obeys the laws of physics, then that's your problem. If you go in knowing what these movies are, chances are you'll have a blast!
  9. I really want to know what the hell happened that two grown men couldn't bury the hatchet. That said, I actually don't really feel cheated out of a Dom/Hobbs fight as we already got that in FAST FIVE. This would just be Round 2, albeit probably bigger and more bad ass.
  10. Whaaa? I think I'll read this after I see the movie tomorrow.
  11. That's what I'm wondering. I thought we'd be getting some big news.
  12. So THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS will be released in 4,304 theatres, per BOM. That's the 14th widest release ever.
  13. $55M is what I had the OD pegged for as well.
  14. I genuinely like your enthusiasm...but that isn't happening.
  15. Stoked for this! And not just because of the Last Jedi trailer either! I hope to hear news on future movies and I want to know more about Battlefront 2 as well as new books and stuff. Also want to hear from the Rebels Season 4 panel!
  16. What I'm saying is that the hyperbole around movies like this gets embarrassing sometimes. These movies are based on a toy line and most of us are adults. The world doesn't revolve around us.
  17. Terrible post. I honestly think the world needs more dumb fun in their movies and less pretentiousness. Half the population is so wound up tight that it would help. They're just movies. 2+ hours of entertainment. That's all they're supposed to be.
