  1. You know what? It had a certain charm. Put it this way, I genuinely did not have a WTF reaction. It had a flair that did capture my attention. Now will I actually see it? Not sure yet. I'm just glad I saw the trailer for the first time on the big screen.
  2. Yeah there's nothing from Marvel for studios to really be afraid of. It's actually a nice change, and I'm a Marvel fanatic! 2020 and 2021 will be a nice little breather, but with intriguing offerings nonetheless.
  3. Good point. Good point. I didn't even notice how late it is here (10:18PM).
  4. That said, even if I don't agree with a lot of what @NCsoft said, I have to hand it to him for at least showing up here. The rest of the Jim gang is predictably silent.
  5. I'm no fan of the Jim Gang but Yikes HeadShot at your Cameron takes. He's no hack. He's one of the most talented guys in the business! Avatar doesn't do much for me, but Titanic, Terminator and Aliens?? Some of the best movies there are!
  6. I really, really, really hope this movie references Thanos/Starfox/Mentor/Alars. I'm not done with Thanos' character and would love to delve more into his backstory and his world.
  7. Marvel likely doesn't want any of the drama that will inevitably ensue. They're already being experimental with Valkyrie being the new "King" of Asgard.
  8. Normally I'd agree with you in general, but Jane Foster Thor IS a thing in the comics. Whatever Marvel Studios does, if there's a precedent set in the comics then I have no issue with it. With any franchises I've only ever been insistent on sticking to the source material, whatever that source material may be. It's when they race-bend or gender-bend just for the sake of it I get annoyed. Luckily when Marvel Studios has done that, it has admittedly been for pretty good reasons and worked anyway (female Ancient One, black Heimdall etc. etc.). All that being said, I do roll my eyes at what they did with Thor's character at the conclusion of Endgame, with him not giving a shit and Valkyrie becoming "King" of Asgard. Blah. Whatever. Marvel Studios has earned me rolling with it.
  9. Now that this is official, what are all your super early predicts for opening weekend and domestic total? Also, do you think it moves up a week to the last weekend of April like Infinity War and Endgame did, or does it keep May 1, 2020?
  10. Cameron fans. So predictable. Who really cares though? I honest to God don't need their congratulations or acknowledgement. They can say and feel what they want. That's their right.
  11. I wasn't here at the time - I was at Superhero Hype using the box office threads for whatever movie to follow box office - but I do know AoU was definitely a learning experience for all BO folks. I know I felt crushed and confused. I've learned a ton since then.
  12. What do you expect though? Nowadays schools are glorified babysitters. Pragmatism is definitely not a thing in high schools. Besides English and Math, which are essential, I'm learning more now when I feel like learning something on a whim than I ever did in school.
  13. Yup, this. I know we all LOVE epic opening weekends and I don't blame any one of you. They're fun times on here! I can almost guarantee, though, that we're going to have a lot of fun with dailies with this one. I say almost guarantee because we don't know the GA's reaction yet. Will a lot of people feel underwhelmed, or will it just be critics and the internet echo chamber?
  14. I'm sad that @mahnamahna's predicted EPIC run for this isn't happening. FYI, his predicted run had this finishing as the top domestic film of all time. I'm slightly disappointed the OW won't be getting close to >TLJ, which I almost took for granted leading up to now, but what ISN'T dead yet is an epic run through to the end of August and even into September. All that's changed from some of our expectations is the size of the starting point. I'm really curious to see how this will play on weekdays and what the 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th weekends and beyond will look like. In other words, this could still be in for a ridiculous TOTAL. We just have to wait and see.
  15. Having just got out of TLK, I can see what some are complaining about. Personally I still really enjoyed it, but the shot for shot remake label that people lazily apply to all Disney remakes literally does apply here. It's almost kind of jarring. My head should have been in the movie I was watching but most of the time I was just picturing the original. One of the main issues with the film is editing and pacing. It feels like in an effort to align the film with the original shot for shot, some of the scenes stick out from each other and feel like they're just patched together, if that makes any sense. There are parts of the film that really don't flow. It was still a gorgeous film visually though, as many have already said, and you can't help but enjoy the musical numbers. My crowd loved it, especially my sister who said she felt like she was in a time warp and actually got emotional. It seems that the very thing people criticize - the shot for shot copycat style - is what other people love so much. That's the story of these fairy tale remakes in a nutshell. Another comment that doesn't really have to do with the movie itself: I was shocked the theatre and my auditorium weren't more packed. Saturday afternoon during the summer? That's PRIMETIME for a family film! However, my thought is that this isn't necessarily an indictment on the box office. We have to consider these new massive theatre counts, which are massively diluting the PTA in the process. There is a ton of supply in terms of seats so it makes sense that even with a huge opening close to $200M that a lot of screenings aren't going to be full. Take away 400-500 theatres (Not too long ago 4,225 theatres would have been a normal number for a movie like this) and of course the theatres will be fuller as the audience is more compressed.
  16. @Porthos, if RTH's latest estimate stands, what's your take on that internal multi? Yet again new territory for presales, where even a family film is fairly front loaded?
  17. According to BOM, yes, but that can always change. For instance, Brian Banks went from being a wide release, to a limited release, and is now a wide release again, per BOM.
  18. That opening day multi is......something else for a family film, to put it mildly. GREAT number in a vacuum but I would expect that kind of multi for a fan driven film. Again, the rate that presales are growing is inane. It's hard for us box office fans to keep up with.
  19. Thanks for posting this @Slambros. I saw it on BOM's release schedule and was wondering about it. Just never got around to looking it up.
  20. Didn't see on opening weekend, in theatres, or didn't see at all? Didn't see Furious 7 on opening weekend or in theatres at all. A few were so long ago that I can't quite remember if I saw them on opening weekend or shortly thereafter (such as DH2 and and Catching Fire) but F7 I'm sure of on both counts. Biggest opening weekend for a movie I haven't seen at all? Oh man, ummm....Breaking Dawn Part 1.
