Yep, or another Don't Breathe. That movie was released the weekend before Labor Day weekend, as dead a release date as there is, yet pulled in a $26.4M opening weekend and legged its way to $89.2M domestic.

The Odd Case of the Disappearence of the “Non-Franchise” Film
JB33 replied to The Panda's topic in Box Office Discussion
Oh I hear ya. I don't disagree. It would be interesting to see in an alternate universe where tickets were much cheaper if those mid-budget dramas/comedies/rom-coms you're talking about were as successful as they were before or if there's a whole different reason behind their death. -
The Odd Case of the Disappearence of the “Non-Franchise” Film
JB33 replied to The Panda's topic in Box Office Discussion
I agree with the sentiment. However, I'm starting to see more dramas and comedies in theatres because I want to put my money where my mouth is and support cinema. I can't sit here and whine about the death of cinema but only go to the big tentpoles myself. Naturally, there are only so many movies I can afford to go to, but a huge percentage of my disposable income goes to Cineplex. I want to do my part to keep studios and cinemas having faith in what they're doing. I dread the day they all decide to throw in the towel. -
Good on Cineplex! I saw so many angry comments on Facebook from leftists and liberals. Their shtick is to ban or boycott anything they don't agree with or makes them uncomfortable. Many of them don't even realize that in a way they're in support of full on censorship. You shouldn't be allowed to say this, you shouldn't be allowed to criticize that, I don't believe in this movie's message so it should not be shown in theatres etc. etc. They preach tolerance (of certain things), yet are so unbelievably intolerant themselves. Cineplex is doing the right thing by finally screening the film and simple letting folks decide whether they want to see it or not. That sounds fair to me. Unfortunately liberals are still going to whine about it.

Moving Bond to Christmas is actually a great idea! I think it would play very well there.

Battle for the Throne: What will be the #1 Film of 2020?
JB33 replied to The Panda's topic in Box Office Discussion
Call me crazy, but I think WW84 has a shot at biggest worldwide of 2020 as well. I'm aware of the narrative that DC doesn't do as well overseas but look how Aquaman did. That might fuel interest and faith in the Wonder Woman sequel overseas, leading lots more people to show up for it than the first one. That's my prediction: Wonder Woman 1984 for both domestic and worldwide champion. -
Cameron fanboys should be thankful for Endgame. It has single-handedly kept this thread - for a movie that is still 2 and a half years away - relevant!

Really? It's pretty clear in The Fate of the Furious that the character is going to have an arc and isn't a one and done villain. After all, she's kind of the mastermind behind some of the other villains in the series so clearly she's the BIG BAD. I'm not surprised in the slightest she's back. In fact, it would have been weird if she wasn't.

It didn't help that the 4 wide releases during the first two months of June had no buzz. I'll find any reason to go to the theatre but even I just couldn't be bothered until the end of June.

Me too. I'm thinking I'll go see Yesterday this evening or tomorrow. If not, next up is Stuber next weekend. Looks hilarious! I feel like my need for my movie fix is because I did something I've rarely done the last several years: I skipped movies two weekends in a row. After seeing Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Ma, I didn't see anything from the June 7-9 or June 14-16 weekends. Finally I saw Toy Story 4, not on opening weekend but last weekend, and have caught up on several more since.

Might be a stupid question, but is there a confirmed number for FFH's midnights? Everywhere I look it doesn't seem like there is a confirmed number. I'm asking because I want to know and record FFH's true Friday. Some here have said the $39.3M is the true number because there were no previews, only midnights, but that doesn't seem to apply to other films pre-Dark Knight Rises. Their midnight numbers are still separated from the rest of the day.

I am! Disappointing that the top 3 young guns - Thiem, Zverev and Tsitsipas - all flamed out in the first round. I don't think the young guys like grass courts at all. I'm rooting for the all time greats on both the men's and women's sides - Roger Federer and Serena Williams - to bag another title and of course I'll be cheering for my countryman Raonic!

As a tennis player and fan, I can't wait for this! The Williams family has a great story! -
Oh I've watched them. I stopped after 4, I think. I also randomly watched part of the last one (not Jigsaw, the last of the main series) a little while ago. That's how I found out I can't do it haha. I agree the story and characters are intriguing. That's why I wish I didn't get so ill watching them. They give the MCU a run for its money in terms of connectivity! It's almost hard to wrap your head around it.

I didn't know Kawhi's name either but as you can imagine the Raptors championship run was a huge deal here in Canada so his name was everywhere.
