The way you have to look at it is, no matter how they're doing it, they're the ones bringing in most of the revenue at the box office. We can't just assume that if Disney weren't doing what they're doing that other studios' films would pick up the slack. Disposable income for everyone outside the upper class is shrinking all the time as the wealth gets more and more unevenly distributed, and movie-going has been one of the prime casualties. This means that most people are going to be selective with what they see and right now, like it or not, Disney is offering most people's first choice.

This is it. Inflation and the rise of the franchise have enabled box office records aplenty to go down. It just so happens that weekend isn't as prolific as it once was, whether it be the movies released on that weekend or the weekend itself. Who knows? Presidents' Day weekend may be the new Memorial Day weekend. As movie-going in general decreases, people might be finding other other options for entertainment on long weekends during the nicer times of year (Memorial Day weekend, Independence Day weekend etc.), whereas before going to the movies was one of the go-to activities on those weekends. Now, take a weekend like Presidents' Day weekend in February, it's dead in the middle of winter and a movie seems like much more of a go-to entertainment option.

Nice call - as always - @Porthos! This could just top $80M for the 3-day and kill my club. It gets to $80.16M using the Pirates 5 three day multi. -
LOL! I love how it's completely unanimous how Jafar sucks in this. We saw social media reactions like yours that were borderline glowing, but with the caveat that Jafar was pretty bad. Good review, though. I just found it unintentionally funny reading yet another person saying the same thing, especially when the rest of your review is overwhelmingly positive and energetic.

That would be great! May 31 is shaping up to be a huge weekend! Godzilla + Rocketman + Ma + likely strong holds for JW3 and EG. Aladdin will probably drop harshly but its 2nd weekend will still be a big chunk to the total. I wonder what the record is for the weekend with most $10M+ grossers (all films, not just openers).
