I was liking the movie until like the last 30 minutes. The ending felt so rushed and the ending bit with
SpoilerCharlottesville and Trump felt weirdly out of place. Like I get the message but it just doesn't mesh well at all with me.
Also we barely get to know the main characters. We learn almost nothing about their past. Also the film's message seems a bit muddle. It seems like it didn't want to take a position when it came to the black radicals we see in the beginning of the movie and the police. Like it wanted to play safe with that. The film is well acted though.

All eyes on China now. Hoping it breaks out in a major way that makes $800M+ possible.

Really solid drop especially for a monster movie. $130M+ is well on track.

40m OW is solid for the MEG, should be able to pull in a relatively profitable WW gross. It's definitely no Into the Storm kind of August bomb.
I wouldn't label a film that made $162M on a $50M budget as a bomb...

Wow so we could be looking at $100M+ OS opening?

The Meg has 61% Audience score on RT, wom won't be great
RT is not the be all end all for WOM. My theater was pretty crowded and people really seem to have dug it.

You'd have to pay me to watch this. Looks like a poor man's Alice in Wonderland, a film I hated.

Will the international audience give a damn about Christopher Robin? I have my doubts.
Winnie the Pooh is famous worldwide so maybe?

People forget about Labor Day Weekend. All movies get a boost in terms of legs cause of it. It's why Suicide Squad managed pretty decent legs considering the bad reviews and big 2nd weekend drop.
-
Opening Weekend - $65 million
Domestic - $220 million
Overseas - $530 million
Worldwide - $750 million

This should make as much as The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer combined ($11M) even if it ends with just a few nominations since this has Emma Stone. Gonna be interesting to see which costume drama makes more between this and Mary, Queen of Scots, even though this looks like it'll be the much better film.
If it does well with the Oscars it should cross $20M. But yeah most I see for this is $40M and that's if it wins Best Picture.

Looks like Fox Searchlight is really confident in this. Last year was great for them considering Shape of Water won Best Picture and Three Billboards won 2 Oscars. Both were also successful financially.
-
Looks like it's being released in all major countries except China and Italy this weekend. $100M+ WW opening is a nice goal.
-
Looks like a nice win for Paramount. With this, Quiet Place and Book Club it's looking like a comeback year for them. If Bumblebee doesn't outright flop it'll be a good year for them.
-
Why are people shocked? Movies generally had a 5% drop yesterday ofc it would drop a lot on Thursday also considering Ant Man 2.
-
If it's alright it should be a hit. Thinking around $600M WW atm.

Which will make more WW this or Solo?
Solo. I think both Alita and Mortal Engines will flop with around $200M WW each.

Which will make more $$$ WW, Alita or this?

Hopefully they end it on a high note. It looks fine could see it performing well during the holidays.
-
Anything above $500M WW is a win.

The first two prequels sucked but Revenge of the Sith is 3rd best in the series. Better than Return of the Jedi.

I get the message but I just didn't think it worked the way it was introduced in the movie. It was jarring especially cause of the rushed ending.
