I really don't follow box office anymore. This is just the only movie-related forum I know lol

This movie genuinely kind of blew me away. I don't know how I feel about it yet. There were parts where it kind of felt like a lesser Michel Gondry/Rick and Morty impression. Then the third act hit me like a truck and had me in fucking tears. Probably didn't help I was listening to Time by Pink Floyd earlier and getting all reflective on life. Anyways it's something you should experience for yourself.

I know a lot of people dislike Life, but I really like that movie. The ending sucks though which I think is one of the main reason why people dislike the movie so much
The ending of that movie ruled.

Look at Diane Warren's reaction. I think she has had it with being nominated but not winning
I just looked up the songs she's been nominated for... and I can see why

In ten, fifteen years no one's going to remember this "Dune" nonsense, Coda will be all they can talk about

Welp now that that's over this is back to being literally unwatchable. IMO Smith came off about as well as you possibly can after slapping someone on live television

Sure would be cool to see what the list looks like without certain films arbitrarily split up into a separate category... but there you go

Cool slasher, I recommend it. First kill is absolutely brutal. Song selection is top notch

Atlanta right back to being the best show on TV like it never left

Not a bad scene. I like the dynamic they have there but the performance feels a bit Ledger-y
-
Lol yeah I can't imagine Robert Eggers likes that poster

Why are you paying attention that grifter lol

I love the score for this, but are Michael Giacchino's song titles always this awful and punny? "Meow and You and Everyone We Know"? Good god

Academy rn. The sad thing is it's probably not even going to be an entertaining trainwreck, it's going to be a boring one.

The Batman is really good. Definitely the best Batman movie
Spoilerthat isn't directed by Christopher Nolan or Tim Burton

Overall thought this was pretty cool and good. Matt Reeves pulled off the Gothic/noir/detective thing very well. Movie looked beautiful. Score is fantastic. The batmobile scene was awesome. I can definitely see this movie growing on me as well. Only thing I'm not sure about... and this is kind of a big one... is Pattinson. I thought he was GOOD, but not great. After seeing him in Good Time and The Lighthouse, I just think he's a better actor when he can emote more more and isn't whispering all the time. People can be tormented inside and not whisper constantly. Honestly the scene in the hospital with Alfred kinda stood out to me as bad acting. Still, I'm sure there'll be some sequels and I think he'll get better the more he settles into the role. As it is now though Christian Bale is still my Batman.
Also just a minor criticism but it made me laugh that Batman and Gordon just leave Penguin after they were in a shootout and a car chase with him (where innocent people most certainly died). Like no harm no foul huh? Alright cool lol
MVP of the cast is Jeffrey Wright. I just like him in everything. And good lord is Zoe Kravitz gorgeous
Another edit: I didn't realize that was supposed to be the Joker at the end, I thought they were hinting at Two-Face. I guess he said something about clowns but I missed that. I swear to god there was so much whispering in this movie

This guy's a great choice for Alien

I watched Batman Returns last night. I grew up on Tim Burton but this movie used to scare the shit out of me as a kid, I couldn't watch it. I think there was something about the Penguin riding around on that big yellow duck that I just couldn't handle, because that image has stayed with me my whole life. I still probably like The Dark Knight as a movie more, but part of me wants to say this is my favorite Batman for how unabashedly weird and grotesque it is. They'll never make another major blockbuster film like it again.

The French Dispatch - I swear this happens with every Wes Anderson movie. The first time I watch it I enjoy it, mostly on a purely visual level, however I'm left not sure how much I enjoyed it, or if I even "got" it. The second time I watch it I absolutely love it and think it's amazing. I think that's partly because his more recent movies throw a LOT of characters at you, and lots of information about said characters, and it delivers that information so fast it can be hard for a dullard like me to follow along.
The Card Counter - Thought this was great. Will definitely be in my top 10 of 2021, not sure where yet. There were a couple key scenes that I wasn't exactly sold on how they played out but overall this was really good
jeen-yuhs - I was hesitant to watch this because I've been so tired of Kanye's antics and music lately, but damn I loved this. Such a cool behind the scenes look into an important moment in hip-hop history, and the creation of an amazing album that was huge in shaping my musical tastes, and a whole generations. It's wild looking back and remembering how much everyone was rooting for him after The College Dropout (and the documentary makes it easy to see why), and how things have changed. Also the scenes with his mom are so touching. It seems like she was the only person who could have possibly humbled him, but she was such a huge fan of him that I don't know if she'd ever want to.

This is a pretty sweet movie. Think I preferred The Witch & The Lighthouse though. Viking funeral was my favorite scene
