  1. With EG 3 weeks later, long term legs are nonexistent. It would need to be big on the opening to hit 200m
  2. So cracking IW mark in US seems a stretch. Still possible I suppose. First and second largest opening marks in any territory belonging to a single movie would insane.
  3. Shazam Would have benefited from an August or November release. They were right to be confident in the movie with how positive reception is but the truth is that there just isn’t room to breathe this time of year, both at the box office and in the social landscape. Marvel and Game of Thrones are simply just taking up all the conversations. Hell I’ve walked by random people in grocery stores talking about one of the two. August it could have done similar to. Guardians or Suicide Squad or in November could have been the big live action release and I think it would’ve done well as a counter to Frozen.
  4. Do they have any local partners or is Disney trying to build the base themselves
  5. That is appearing to be a pretty bad idea as well. Shazam looks like it’s getting caught up in the massive marvel whirlwind. Will still be a nice money maker for WB but if sales and other metrics are to be believed, it’s going to be Ant Man 1 levels at the max
  6. If the budget is really under 100m, it would be a success with even 300m. Don’t really need to worry about not getting more installments.
  7. If the so called non franchise movie that you’re talking about had any merit, it wouldn’t have any problem finding another home. Based on the hundreds of duds released every year, there are actually probably to many blank checks being handed around
  8. Why look at the ratios and knock Disney for it when you can look at the bottom line of these big studios and see that their ratio is easily superior right now. This is a forum about money that movies make. And to me it’s clear which one stands above the rest. The people can be annoyed all they want to no consequence when the people are the ones responsible for purchasing a movie ticket. How can the general audience be annoyed at their own decisions? If you were to ask the people complaining about Disney to show you all of their movie ticket purchases over the last 3 years, it would likely be hilariously hypocritical
  9. Is it really at the expense of not making non franchise movies? Their business mode is just simply different. And for now, simply superior in terms of money.
  10. Let’s also not ignore the fact that Disney is releasing pretty much the same number of remakes and sequels as the other guys. Sure if you want to be mad at them for doing basically only that plus some animation originals, go ahead. It really wouldn’t be that hard to find a few Original live actions a year, and maybe they will with Fox Studios in their belt now. But it seems to me that they are adapting to the reality of the “going to the cinema” model. People don’t really want to go see artsy movies on the big screen anymore. If you’re spending 50+ dollars to take a family to the movies, you probably want to see a 200 million dollar blockbuster product. I doubt the bigwigs at Disney knew five or 10 years ago that they’d be this dominant in terms of revenue share with so few releases. On a box office forum is seems a little silly to knock a company making so much money with this efficiency
  11. Movie business is pretty low on the totem pole for Comcast, Disney, and AT&T.
  12. What action movie with this level of budget doesn’t have cool cgi shots. That’s about as corporate as you can get lol
  13. Isn’t every major release...corporate? These studios aren’t doing this for a benefit of mankind, as much as they’d try and make you think that
  14. Lol can’t blame them. I know I’m going into internet blackout upon release
  15. Lol I love mentioning Black Panther. It gets everyone’s jimmies rustled
  16. if WW was mind blowing...what was Black Panther
