It is interesting to consider how a random permutation of the 6 receptions relative to release order would affect the narrative. NWH being such an outlier in some respects leaves a bit of a 3-in-a-row taste, which sounds especially bad. When you zoom it back to the past 15 movies the franchise track record is still very good — but a discontinuity in the baseline between FFH and BW is quite plausible for a variety of factors. We’ll need several As in a row if people are going to go back to simply assuming an A/A+ default for all MCUs the way we did in 2019.

Shazam 1 was like 170 adjusted or so? I’d certainly hope this can get to 200M over xmas if it’s well received. Then again Spiderverse had much less competition, also xmas, better reception than is reasonable to hope, and barely adjusts over 200M so who knows.

The showtime counts are the main info really. Even moving up an hour or two would knock that out.

Well, some periods of the week tend to have important new info, and some don’t. There are always people free immediately before the deadline and some who aren’t, true. But generally the earlier the deadline is, the less valuable info the immediate pre deadline period has. Also full disclosure I think predicting from farther away&therefore with less info is just harder->more skill testing->more fun.

As someone who is always free in the 10 mins before the current deadline, I do feel like it provides an advantage and I would be in favor of an earlier lock.

If these comp blocks are programmatically generated anyway, would be nice to maybe get a linear difference from the same comp in the period being quoted. E.g. I know I personally will sometimes scroll up and down and up like 5 times to see which direction each went in 😆

Feels like saga 2 is closer to phase 1/2/3 than to saga 1. That’s exactly what I don’t like about the new structure.

Waiting 11 years for aeg is what made it what it was. AEG in 2013 just wouldn’t be that hype even if you had the same 21 movies before it.

I mean, that’s pretty much Kevin’s reasoning 😆 Personally I don’t like that this saga will only be 5 years in real life. Feels less epic to me. I would rather have kept sagas as like 9 year things, 3 phases of 3 years each closed with an avengers , and just have like 30 projects per phase and that’s fine.

Thor performance definitely is embarrassing, but it’s excusable considering the movie sucked.

I could see the week at more like 60 if 44 sticks. Not my 50th percentile, but not like 2nd percentile either. Maybe 10th ish. And I’d take the under on 44. Still even like 6.4-37-16-53 is a 112M and I think that is being quite pessimistic.

Listened to some post SDCC interviews with Kev, seems like two parter avengers saga capper with no avengers in the previous phases of a saga is the new norm. Personally I’m not really fond of that, hope they change course for saga three. It is basically 2 avengers movies per 5 years I guess, but pacing feels weird.

Phase 5 is two years long, it's 3.5/yr. Daredevil is triple length though, seems like they're putting a lot of extra effort there -- if that isn't good either they should seriously pause these shows and do a complete rethink from the ground up on D+ strategy.
