    I’m usually on your side fullbuster but this is unnecessarily condescending and kind of ignoring the facts. We have OD numbers and PS numbers for a lot of the important markets. We don’t need to wait to see whether it opens awfully, we’ve already seen that it is opening awfully. Yes, let’s wait for legs to get a more clear picture, and I hope they’re good, but legs can only do so much from super low openings.

    Some tension here now between keeping the Apr 29-30 dates in mostly recovered Asian markets for the May Day holiday benefit vs moving to later May, reshuffling Cruella and/or Free Guy, and having somewhat better conditions in Europe, Latin America, and DOM.

    Yes, really weak OD. Was clear from PS. This seems to be having troubles almost everywhere, let’s see if DOM will be an exception.

    Haha, yeah, I mean even 1.5M in previews could be like 30M weekend so... These are more for use with future comps than telling us anything really about what these 3 movies will do. Except compared to each other, but Raya>Chaos>Boogie was never much in doubt.

    3M Th+Fri would be like an 11M weekend or something. Not impossible, but since it’s T-1 for previews but T-2 for true Fri and walk ups should be bigger on Fri it’s just very hard to compare.

    Honestly, historically, that is a good reason to think it’s gonna flop 😛 I still hope it can have great reception and leg somewhere nice.

    It’s going to have a flop OW in China. Unless it can have Soul-level reception (unlikely) a total below $10M could be in the cards. In Korea the PS are rather low as well.

    Yeah, I personally will not be too worried until we have F9, V2, or an MCU do poor business with good reception.

    I2 on the bottom is shocking to me. It’s the hugely anticipated one with legions of preexisting nostalgic fans, crazy trailer metrics, and over 600M DOM!

    Gonna preempt you here Fullbuster — PS started for Raya late yesterday and they look baaaaad. Of course let’s see how they ramp up on first full day and what reception is.

    This seems like an indication that they’ve firmed up a date choice (though a reshuffle could still be possible if F9 moves soon) but not necessarily a format choice yet. They can reboot marketing while still holding off a little further— for instance, critical info on Los Angeles and by extension Regal is expected in the next couple weeks.

    Standalone original movies just generate less discussion than franchise/connected universe entries. There’s no established fan base of the world or characters, no prior movies have hinted/set up anything that people want to see how it’s paid off, and people don’t expect it to connect to anything coming out afterward. I think I will really enjoy this movie and I’m looking forward to seeing it in theaters and hope it has a good run, but pretty understandable why there hasn’t been that much chatter.

    Isn’t the shareholders meeting on the 9th? I wouldn’t expect anything firm by then. Just some “it’s still scheduled for theatrical, we’re heartened by vaccine news, but keeping our options open waiting to see more blah blah blah.”

    Yeah, Thor4, gotg3, etc should really move up a week DOM. Make end of April the new default. For this movie though April probably not so good 😆

    Disney is competent, so they’re probably optimistic about improving conditions enabling a full theatrical run domestically (some territories won’t be though, not sure if those’ll go hybrid or just be delayed). However, the more important thing is that they don’t need to decide on hybrid or not yet. They can just keep their options open and wait for more data.
