WGA/SAGAFTRA Strike Discussion Thread | SAG Ratifies Contract

That is just embarrassing for the larger studios. -
I think announcing the reboot as soon as they did could be considered a bad decision. It sure doesn’t seem to be doing their 2023 slate any favors. In his possible defense though, maybe that was something Zaslav told him to do. I also think it was pretty pointless for them to reshoot the ending of The Flash, just so they could troll the audience with a George Clooney cameo. Seriously though, the timing of the DCU could not have been worse. I’m pretty certain the announcement of a new Superman wouldn’t have been nearly as divisive if WB hadn’t made a big fuss less than two months earlier over Henry Cavill’s supposed return. It doesn’t help that we still don’t have a lot of clarity on what is considered canon to the DCU. By the way, can we stop to acknowledge that James Wan is ready to move on from DC at this point, while Andy Muschietti is being given a Batman movie?

I’m pretty sure Tom Cruise has more than enough clout that he’d be able to participate in the strikes without having to worry about it hurting his career. -
Gerwig is free to direct whatever she wants. If she wants to direct a superhero movie or a Star Wars movie, that would be her prerogative. I’m not sure if it would be fulfilling for her as a creative, but she did help write an upcoming Disney live action remake, so it doesn’t seem that she’s particularly interested in being an indie filmmaker.

Harley Quinn cosplay was all the rage in 2016. She was a huge fad at that time, despite the less than stellar reception to the movie. I suppose in that sense, WB’s efforts to retool the movie into a GotG/Deadpool clone kind of worked out, since I’m not sure that David Ayer’s gloomier and more “dramatic” film would’ve produced those same results. I believe she was the one who shopped the movie to WB after Sony rejected it, but I’m not 100% sure. I do know her casting predates Greta Gerwig’s involvement.
