yikes for Fantastic Beasts 2 B+ CinemaScore,RT dropped to the 30s and audience score is going down.. and don't expect this to have good legs since FB2 is just a 2-hour boring commercial for Fantastic Beasts 3 200M is dead.. 63M opening would lead to 157-176M dom total ( assuming 2.5x-2.8x multi at best) and even if it somehow manages to have the same legs as FB1, it would still fall short of 200M (3.1x multi for 195M but that's unlikely to happen anyway). WB should be counting on OS to carry this movie to 700M+ and after the disappointing numbers in China I'm not even sure if 700M is still within reach.

People should like the same movies

a 150M-160M domestic result would be abysmal for FB2, that wouldn't let it even be in WB top 3 movies of the year..

what makes you think that a movie made exclusively for the fans will have good legs? this movie doesn't work well as a standalone (it's more like a FB 2.5) like the first one and will likely have less repeat viewings and worse word of mouth than the first. I think it can do 70M+ OW but will fall short of 200M (should do 170M-180M unless it gets fudged or extended)

Domestically we'll be a fan event that took place on Tuesday night in ~600 locations.

a 55M 2nd weekend for Venom would be bigger than IW's 54.1M 2nd weekend in China.. I'm still shocked at how well this is doing in China. I thought the movie was pretty enjoyable and funny but not to the point where it can break so many records..

unless you're an MCU film. The MCU have produced 10 sequels and all of them have increased over their predecessors except for AoU (for obvious reasons and it did increase over A1 OS). So why can't the other franchises follow the MCU? all they have to do is make good movies..

blaming Depp for FB2 underperformance is like blaming Ben Affleck for BvS's shortcomings.

Yates directing was fine in this one though.. all the issues originate from the messy script imo.

pre-sales indicate that FB2 should get close to 10M on Thu previews (like Venom and AMATW) but deadline is only reporting 7M-7.5M

dang the previews for this started at 5PM, while FB1 previews started at 6PM. If FB2 can't match the original in previews while having screenings start 1 hour earlier then that doesn't bode well for the weekend..

So WB using a Chinese mythical beast in the marketing and the movie didn't help huh

I found the stuff leading up to the cliffhanger (before the 3rd act) that doesn't involve Leta or Newt pretty boring. and being "boring" is a criticism I've heard from multiple youtube reviewers so I'm not the only one.

Based on the marketing, the early 70M tracking and hype I've seen for it on social media I was expecting it to do like 80M-90M OW so it could comfortably do 200M++ dom (maybe even close to 250M). but after seeing it last night it's fair to say that the movie is very likely to have way worse legs than the first (if you've seen the movie you'll understand why) so now 200M dom is a pipe dream anyway. I hope I'm wrong though and the GA ends up loving it but I doubt that.

Even some of the fans will get disappointed (like myself). The trailers made the movie sound way better than it actually is. Narratively speaking it was so messy and convoluted, almost everyone I spoke to irl expected more from it. I wouldn't be surprised if FB2 ends up with the worst legs for any HP movie.
