Both parties are millionaires. Anyways, this is going way long than it should. My take is simple. From Producer POV, My money, My film. I release it in Theatre, VOD, OTT. My wish. You don't wanna play on your theater, don't. What was required, just like how NATO is screwing Universal, the Big 4s (Disney, WB, Uni and Sony) should have shown unity as well.

Besides I think Indian multiplexes are fucking worst, USA one seems nicer. I don't know about USA but Indian multiplexes don't even Share 3D Glass charges with Distributor. Reason why Hollywood films other than Disney don't release in 3D in India. And not just multiplexes even govt used to fuck industry in India. More in past than now though. In 2003, at all India level, if a film was grossing ₹100, Govt got ₹43, Distributor ₹34 & Theatre ₹23. Some Theatre would charge maintenance charges of 2-5% which they didn't share with Distributor. Now it's 16:41:43 respectively.

Yeah because that's their right, isn't it? The theatrical shares were around 60-70% before multiplexes. In fact in India they still do for single screens and South Indian films. For Indian films in USA this is also same (AMC-Regal 40-45%, Cinemark 50-55%, Individual chains 50-60%). Donno if Hollywood has same. The problem started with multiplexes starting to strong-arm producers for lower shares due to their increasing size. Bollywood producers had to go on strike for getting 50% share only, multiplexes were going for even lower. I don't even know if that makes any sense. Box office was reported before multiplexes started this arm-twisting.

Week 4 (25 Apr - 01 May 2020) Movies Love Aaj Kal: I never thought I will say that, but well done Karthik (don't like the actor otherwise, he is annoying). Imtiaz Ali does what he does best. Randeep owns the film. Throughout the film was imagining SRK playing Raj. I wish he had done the role. Would have said best of Imtiaz but I need to rewatch his stuff. 7/10. Happy Death Day: Groundhog Day but with a girl who gets murdered. Enjoyed it. 7/10. Happy Death Day 2 U: The biggest negative of this film was it gave a science mumbo jumbo to the events of the first film, which feels out of place. Still enjoyable. A lenient 5/10. The Lunchbox: Wanted to watch it for long time but never got the motivation, this week gave it. The best thing about film is performances which sells the story, however, we are introduced to Ila as a woman trying to impress her husband but the tifin gets mis-delivered and she is expressly disappointed. What the character would do, the next day itself she will be righting that mistake not send some note or something. A lenient 7/10. Bad Education: Good. 6/10. Thappad: The film isn't story of just Tapsee's character, it tries to be story of different women in different classes of society and tells their story well. It isn't about slap, it is about how women are expected for certain behaviour. Must watch. 8/10. -
Let's be fair. If the producers wanna secure their investments and think they can get the audience by OTT or VOD, they should be free to do so. Exhibitors have no right whatsoever. I also wonder, if producers can leverage this situation for better sharing terms when all this is over. In ideal world, Studios deserve way more than 50% of Net revenue.

Gonna change some Domestic: $500mn (The Lion King level) Overseas: $1100mn (Slightly better than The Lion King in some markets) China: $500mn Total: $2100mn.

BTW, what was expectations from Trolls 2 theatrically. I don't think anyone was expecting $100mn. BOP was seeing it at $80mn, which is roughly $38-40mn of SHARE after spending atleast $10mn on Print and other distribution cost, not accounting marketing. Internationally, may be 65% of the original i.e. $125mn Gross, giving $50mn SHARE after atleast $15mn Print & distribution Cost. Giving Net Theatrical SHARE of $65mn Approx. On VOD it is at $77mn SHARE. So did the move (COVID) worked? Donno how it will be doing on physical units, first Trolls movie did $70mn per The-Numbers and overall $170mn by TV and Home Video worldwide, which seems low from $70mn number by The-Numbers.
