  1. The pitch is bit wrong. An amateur wrestler: Nope. He wasn't amateur. He was a great wrestler but was forced to leave wrestling as it wasn't feeding him and his family well. In fact, the film starts with the scene, in which Aamir's character, who is working in his deskjob for years now, is challenged by the recent joinee who is State level wrestling champion. Watch what happens. After the fight, the new joinee says, "You have it in you. You just defeated State champion" to which Aamir's character reply, "Don't take it now heart man, National champion has defeated you". That reminds me Dangal 1st half was great. Film lose its grip in 2nd half. India's first world-class female wrestlers: Phogat sisters weren't first female wrestlers from India to win at international events. There were others but Phogat sister got the media hype post Aamir Khan bringing their story in limelight in his TV talk show Satyamev Jayate and then making a film on their story.
  2. So I did the "Adjustment to ER" and "Admission Count" last year. As per ER adjustment, Avatar Gross was $2,355mn (84% of Endgame) last year while Admission Count was 285mn (74% of Endgame). There was doubt among people that ER adjustment is faulty as there's inflation in countries' with ER depletion and I myself had an issue with Admission count that Eastern countries has low ATP and West has higher, which will be giving a true picture in sense of which film was watched more but not in term of money as 20mn admissions in India today are worth $60mn but same will be $250mn in Germany. To overcome that, I am doing Inflation and ER adjustment both. How? Well, I will be taking the footfalls of the film in a country, and take Endgame's ATP to give adjusted Gross at time of Endgame release. e.g. India, Avatar grossed $27.5mn here in 2010 with admissions around 9mn. Adjusted for ER that gross was $18mn last year. In the new measure, taking Endgame ATP i.e. $2.9, the gross in 2019's inflation and ER will be $26.1mn. Similarily for France, Avatar actual gross $176mn with 14.78mn admissions. ER adjusted Gross will be $149mn while at Endgame's ATP i.e. $8.92 with Avatar's admissions, we have $132mn. Using this approach, the Gross of Avatar adjusted for today's ATP is $2,423mn in 2019 i.e. 87% of Avengers: Endgame. This is the best approach there is. It account for inflation and Exchange Rate both. So in conclusion. Avatar is 74% of Avengers: Endgame in Admissions Avatar is 84% of Avengers: Endgame in Adjustment to Exchange Rates Avatar is 86% of Avengers: Endgame in Inflation and ER adjustment.
  3. The tickets were dirt cheap as I am told and there were screening other than theaters. Mobile screenings. The person who gave the information said the biggest of hit had over 2bn viewers but those includes free tickets.
  4. We were shown the three films I mentioned in School movie day along with Spider-Man 2 and Tarzan.
  5. Yes. The record in India is around 300mn admissions in 1975-1985 for a film called Sholay. China having bigger population and better economy than India, so not really surprising.
  6. Three of the biggest family films from Hollywood for me as kid were Baby's Day Out, Stuart Little & Stuart Little 2. Didn't knew that Baby's Day Out was a Disaster until few years ago.
  7. Studios till now Sony: 465 Disney: 233 + Fox: 150 = 383 Universal: 351 Paramount: 168 Warner: 167
  8. In case theatres don't open entire year, I think we have a winner in Sony. @TMP
  9. When I say I liked it, I mean it. The film is so good. I hate Karthik Aryan but he was really good in the film, similar to RK.
  10. No Female star. Sonam Bajwa do more films so can say her. Diljit is biggest by margin followed by Ammy Virk and Amrinder Gill.
  11. I would have done myself but I don't know how exactly to compile all the list (manually?). That may take a hell of effort which I think I am not capable. If there's any automation method, that will be wonderful.
  12. Idk if I can manage to do it, but @grim22 I guess Top 100 Indian films will be a nice list. Can use weigh system giving higher preference to the list with 50/75/100 (however you deem fit) or more films than the one lowers. I mean if someone just submit 10 films, their 10 films get 1/5th or 1/7.5th or 1/10th the point otherwise allotted to those number of films. This to give a better representation as majority non-Indians might not have seen that many films.
  13. You have given the worst metaphors today. Since you want a metaphor for Environment, here's one for you. There are two trees, you can water one now & water other 4 months later; or You can water either or both now. Not perfect, but that's what it is.
  14. In India, the talks are going to release half dozen films on Netflix/Disney+Hotstar including A-lister films.
  15. Distributor/Producer is the person who make the film. Exhibitor is just the middle-man. Let the manufacturer be directly helped
  16. The only threat to this concept is Piracy. Which need to be controlled though as I guess USA isn't impacted by it much but releasing film on VOD, it's BRRips/WebRips will be out same day, which gonna affect business in 3rd world.
  17. Naah I will be fine, there will be Home Video tracking then. Besides, again not saying just ignore cinema altogether. Let there be both VoD & Cinema together. Let people choose. They wanna watch Avengers: Endgame in theatre, they got that. They wanna watch a subtitled Parasite at home, they got that.
  18. I am not saying all cinemas must die. I am saying give consumer right where he wanna consume the film. Theatres shall not dictate producer to not release their film on any platform. And of course that's gonna happen. In India, Jio which started data revolution with dirt cheap internet is going to start releasing movies simultaneously. How the system gonna work, financial aren't out yet, but that's the plan.
