  1. You can get acquainted with the new generation in the above exclusive image, as seen in our upcoming issue; as well as Neytiri (second from the left) and Jake (far right), you’ll see, from left to right, Sigourney Weaver’s adopted youngster Kiri, as well as the three biological Sully kids – Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss). For Cameron, giving the Sullys a whole load of kids was all about upping the personal and emotional stakes for his four-film sequel saga. “I’m a father of five,” the director tells Empire. “I look around – I don’t want to specifically say the Marvel Universe, or the DC Universe – at current fantasy and science-fiction and all these heroes seem unbound in the mire of relationships, the stuff that pulls you down and clips your wings, that stops you running around and risking your life. I thought, “What if I take these incredible characters of Jake and Neytiri and give them a family?’ That gives them feet of clay right there.” And it’s not just Neteyam, Lo’ak, Tuk and Kiri in the mix – there’s also Spider, played by Jack Champion, a human orphan stranded on Pandora who is taken in as part of the Sully crew. For returning star Sam Worthington, exploring ideas around fatherhood offered a chance to dig into a whole new side of Jake. “It’s about what you are teaching your children as they develop, and grow,” he says. “Jake comes from the point of view of being a Marine and leans into that way of thinking because that’s what was ingrained in him about surviving. Pacifism and militarism are definitely going to come clashing.” Avatar 2: Meet Jake And Neytiri’s Brand New Na’vi Family – Exclusive Image | Movies | Empire (empireonline.com)
  2. As far as I can tell the info about the sea creatures is the full extent of the coverage in the new magazine.
  3. I suck with music terminology but the teaser music is a down tempo(?) version of the theme from the first movie.
  4. I think they can swing some good numbers off of the curiosity of seeing what the mythological "Avatar 2" looks like. Will probably fall somewhere in the non-Avengers MCU trailer range.
  5. The "What made Avatar a success" power rankings in my eyes. Sense of Wonder - Pandora (Larger than life vistas/Creatures and plants/bioluminescence), Jake's first flight Relationships - Jake/Neytiri Action - Thanator chase / Hometree / End Battle Avatar has sense of wonder by the truckloads and the action is some of the best of the 2000s and I'm sure The Way of Water is going to deliver on those two pillars no question. Relationships on the other hand is where A2 can see the most immediate growth over the first film. Most of A1's cast are one note shell people there to advance the story, but Cameron succeeded where he had to with Jake and Neytiri. Jake and Quaritch works but there's plenty room to make that adversarial relationship stronger in A2. Cameron is well aware of the shortcomings of the first movie and I think taking on 7 child actors is a response to the criticism/personal challenge. Developing satisfying character arcs for those 7 from varying ages from as young as 9 in A2 to grown adults by the time we reach A5 is going to be central to the narrative success of these sequels.
  6. In this post-Fortnite era, I didn't think somebody personalizing their Avatar's appearance would be seen as ridiculous idea but here we are.
  7. Was it 5 minutes? Somebody over on the blu-ray forums said they got the 2D/3D versions of the trailer shipped to their theater and it has a 1 minute 34 second runtime. I think I also heard them say it was a short teaser on the John Campea stream.
  8. "Whatever happens, this family is our fortress" is a banger. The bu-bu I can't remember any dialogue haters are in shambles just off the teaser.
  9. What's that? Somebody tried to start a narrative based on 1 tweet? I'm shocked.
  10. The Way of Water huh? I like it. If I don't see multiple wow puns coming out of cinemacon impressions I'll be highly disappointed. "One word. Wow"
  11. Shot of Spider is taken from this same scene. It's just a set photo as you can still see the green screen pillars in the Spider close up.
  12. Watched it a few more times and I'm fine with it now. Like said above, watching it on Apple Trailers and the CG looks fine in good quality.
  13. 6 months to clean up the CG but I was hoping with Tim Miller being former Blur guy the CG would be implemented better but it looks like the typical obvious cg doubles bouncing around like the other Terminator movies. Also some scenes are way too dark. They probably haven't settled on the final color timing but the scene of Sarah at night and the cargo plane shot were too dark to really see what was happening.
