  1. Even if Avatar 2 is more of a $134m opener than a $200m+ opener, it still doesn't make much sense to open directly against the third. I agree that this should move up a week as Jumanji-style counter-programming.
  2. Wanted to run this by @Shawn as well, but I don't believe The Whale is going as wide as BOP has it, in case you use those projections for theater counts. A pal of mine did a check and only had it pegged at around 10 locations, unsure if that was just one national chain or if it was for the entire US. Dec 21 seems to be considered the wide date for it, a lot more locations have times then, and I believe A24 is even promoting that as when it's available nationally. If I'm correct, might want to adjust derby predictions accordingly.
  3. A new Demon Slayer movie is Crunchyroll's March 3 nationwide release: Edits three episodes together into a feature film.
  4. IMAX has already announced the Feb 10 re-release of Titanic will be getting their screens: So James Cameron will lose the IMAX screens to... himself.
  5. Top Gun: Maverick is returning to theaters starting this weekend. As posted in the TG:M thread: Listing is already up on Regal's website
  6. I agree with this. Think I made this argument on a different board back when theater chains were introducing variable pricing back in March (although it was already in place prior). It doesn't make much sense to me for a ticket to the second Friday of Cyrano to cost the same as a ticket to opening night of The Batman, especially when the former was already playing to empty theaters. Might as well lower the price and see if you can get a handful of potential concession-buyers in the door rather than one (or none). Of course, as you mentioned, theaters get a bigger share of the ticket money on the following weekends, so they'll probably want as much as they can get.
  7. There was enough interest in its numbers that all the trades (and apparently The-Numbers and BOM) reported what was told by "industry sources". Netflix still has never released official box office numbers.
  8. Wow, these verified RT reviews are getting even worse! As if the homophobia wasn't enough, now there's racist reviews upset about the interracial couple? These people are nuts. I would normally expect this from the review-bombing "All Audience" amalgamation, but sad that it happens even with ticket verification.
  9. When you open the verified reviews, there's a lot of unfortunate homophobic reviews. A friend of mine on a Discord server said there was a dad who forced his family to leave a screening of the movie once a gay character showed up. Really pathetic.
  10. Hmm… now I’m hearing it might be noon EST. Oh well, it’s one or the other! EDIT: Well this is causing some confusion. One chain still has the time as 6, another has noon. Might be some inconsistencies as to who puts them on sale when.
  11. M3GAN should be on sale Dec 1. Hope everyone has a good Friday and another great weekend.
  12. I believe it was already known that Avatar 2 would go on sale Monday, which is accurate. If anyone wants to know the exact time on the day, at least one major nationwide chain has sales beginning at 6am EST. Unrelated aside, Quintessential Quintuplets is not having full-day showtimes like One Piece: Red, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, etc. Rather, it seems most theaters will only be playing it once a night for the weekend and during a couple days of the week. Tickets for that are going on sale today (11/18) in a few hours.
  13. I Wanna Dance with Somebody tickets should be on sale on 11/23, one week from today.
  14. Would not be surprised if Chosen S3 Begins opens higher than at least one of the new studio openers this weekend. The Menu is probably too high to reach, but if She Said goes low like a lot of these heavy awards-bait dramas have (say $4-6m), that gives Chosen a solid chance at pulling in higher. Xmas with Chosen did $4.2m OW but opened mid-week, it was at a $9.1m total after the first weekend.
  15. Hearing Violent Night on sale Nov 16 and Strange World on the 15th, same day as Puss in Boots 2.
  16. My guess would be that streamers would be the only ones on board to show a new release in advance at a significant discount since they don’t really care about theatrical earnings. Was talking to someone in touch with people at Regal, and he implied the general sentiment was that major theatrical studios wouldn’t be on board as it would be giving away or cheapening their product. My rebuttal to that would be that studios do free WoM-building advance screenings all the time, but I suppose even those are done on a lesser scale than how wide these mystery movie showings are.
  17. Found out “Chili” was the codename used in production for Spirited, so up my original 99.9% certainty to 99.99999%
