Shadow is an exceptionally popular character in that franchise, rivals the ones that were introduced in 2. I recall lots of clips of audiences going crazy during the last movie's credits scene with him. It also helps that there's solid goodwill from two well-received previous entries and seemingly a video game movie boom going on.
That being said, I'm not expecting a huge increase from the last one. I don't exactly see it coming close to $300m domestic, but I can definitely see it passing both of the previous installments and the $200m mark.
Yes, almost certainly. Not necessarily on the finished product stage (although not ruled out), but definitely projects in development and pre-production.
Sony... why....
This has been pushed back again to Dec 21. The last two times this constantly delaying of pre-sales happened, the films themselves were delayed. I dunno, this is ridiculous.
@Shawn Robbins I noticed you had the location count for Poor Things set at 450 this weekend in the BOP forecast, but I believe the location count for it has been confirmed at 82. I'm assuming that changes the projection?
I believe Hero still remains the last overseas-produced foreign language movie to top the weekend box office with no dub option available (although I believe one was eventually made for the home video release).
As mentioned, if we're counting foreign language titles that had both sub and dub versions simultaneously released, then Demon Slayer and Dragon Ball must count.
I was going to mention this in conjunction with the fact that people were recently enamored with The Matrix, which had similar extensive wire work that Crouching Tiger also displayed, so it gave audiences more of that kind of action, along with rave reviews and awards buzz (which provided more of a boost back in 2000 than they do today).
It was all over the Macy’s parade broadcast, which pulled in almost 30 million viewers. I get the trailer in front of nearly everything that’s PG rated too.
Re: depressing/low numbers, I find box office fascinating to follow whether it ends up good or bad, there’s always something interesting going on. I’m intrigued by what makes one title misfire tremendously and another succeed wildly, but I won’t really get personally invested in cheering or jeering any of them beyond a derby/club kinda way (and even then, that’s just for casual fun).
