Not the only person to say that, but there's also a fair amount of debate if it was said character's motif or the person who was already in the episode.

FWIW, prior storytelling beats/ways they tell their stories in TBB does suggest you are right.

It sounded to me like the motif for the character shown rather than the character theorized.

Obviously counting on the T-mobile deal to rescue GBFE. 😉

Look, while it might be more concentrated than some, thinking GBFE is gonna act like a late-arriving GA film isn't without reason.

On the other hand, with four large(-ish) films release in a short amount of time "middle child syndrome" had to be kept in mind as a possibility.  It is true that technically movie going isn't a zero-sum game.  At the same time family movie-going budget isn't infinite, so increased competition in such a short amount of time within relatively similar demos really should be kept in mind.

So could that Deadline range hit?  Sure.  Personally I'd take the under, but we won't really know how likely that is until we see review/social bump + T-mobile bump.

I mean technically anything can get good walkups, but Afterlife wasn't anything impressive and demographically Ghostbusters doesn't really fit with the type of film to get good walkups, I don't see any particular reason for this to be an exception.

  3. Another solid couple of episodes, Crosshair being back with the squad is so refreshing. This season is definitely much more cohesive but I do miss the more episodic/varied nature of the previous seasons a bit. Do enjoy that this first half of the season has set up a ton of stuff that's gonna make the back half a hell of a payoff.

Another very solid entry.  Character arcs are proceeding nicely (and logically).  For one thing, Omega really is turning out to be a born leader (no coincidence at all, I think, that she took to/emulated Hunter the most).  Crosshair's also showing some real depth when it comes to characterization.

Though I am a little curious about the

      Hide contents

cold reception seemingly given to Crosshair at the reunion at the end of the episode, considering Hunter and Wrecker planning on busting Crosshair out of jail as well.  If memory serves that is.

Could be a bunch of repressed emotions suddenly coming to the fore though, especially with Tech being dead.

Gonna be... interesting to see the immediate (and not so) fallout next episode.

Might not have reached the highs of 1 and 3, but seasons need solid/logical episodes that move things along and entertain while doing so.  And this fit that description in spades.

Missed commenting in the thread but loved this episode as well, it's been a great start to the season so far.

To your comments in the spoiler box

    Spoiler

I think it makes a lot of sense that while they were willing to break Crosshair out of the cell, they're not just going to immediately forgive him for everything he did, and especially for (in their view) abandoning them at the end of season 1 when he was given the chance to be back with them. Certainly Tech's death will play into this as well -- one of my few criticisms of this season so far is that I would like to have seen Crosshair's reaction to learning about Tech's death, as from the way Omega has been talking to him (mentioning "Hunter and Wrecker" all the time) it seems impossible that he doesn't know at this point.

what is you excuse for its 2019 box office????? Monster-verse 2019 movie final run at American box office was 110M.

Obviously the fact that those are two different movies. That was a solo Godzilla movie with the other monsters being ones that audiences don't care about and this is a crossover with both Godzilla and Kong.

  6. It's meh. Although the choreography could have been better, visuals and action are pretty good when the show isn't hamstringing itself with slowmo, which made episode 8 my favorite by default due to the Koizilla (glorious). The show does a pretty good job of capturing the feel of the original and at least is making a good faith attempt to stick to the original story and respect the world. ire Nation characters were mostly good as well, but Iroh and Azula do feel off.

But the biggest crime here is the rushed character development for the Gaang, who barely even feel like friends. This is just compounded by heaps of bad expository dialogue and the baffling decision to split them up for much of the show. Katara in particular doesn't even feel like the same character, and Aang is pretty far off as well (in this version he doesn't even run from being the Avatar, getting caught in the storm was purely a freak accident). Sokka is elevated by his actor, but doesn't really bond with the others as he should, and Appa and Momo feel like props.

Some side characters (Kyoshi and Bumi especially) were handled oddly and the Spirit World in general was done really poorly, surprisingly so since the show was fairly respectful of the original's lore and world in other ways. The score was also very unmemorable and didn't use the original themes as much as it should have.

Oh yeah I get it now, so now I agree you’re right, The Marvels was highly front loaded, I remember by the first days of pre sales people were projecting it to make 85M OW, but The Marvels ended up with 46M. So it makes sense you avoid using it as a comp.

So I agree with you about Hunger Games, it was way less front loaded. Then yeah I think you’re right, Aquaman and Hunger Games seem to be the best comps.

Who thought the Marvels would make 85M after day 1 of PS??? It was obviously not going close to that.

yeah, that's similar to the " if the marvels underperform a lot then madame web is obviously going to underperform a lot" that a lot had two months ago and were clearly wrong

"Clearly" wrong? Aquaman 2 had an awful first day, having slightly more D1 presales with the benefit of a Valentine's Day opening isn't much of an accomplishment.

No Way Home was/is the epitome of the movies Marvel wants to make: A giant crowd-pleaser that every demographic can watch and enjoy and which makes them excited for whats to come.

Unfortunately for Marvel, No Way Home was also the last movie where they got that formula right. Since then, its been nothing but stumbles, embarrasments and self-harm.

Guardians 3 was loved by audiences everywhere...

I've noticed a lot of the forum's biggest Marvel fanboys aren't really around right now. the few that are here and sticking to this thread like those Japanese soldiers that were never told the war was over.

What would be the point in staying?

  12. Yeah honestly I think Anakin was pretty much essential for the series and honestly I could have used a little more of him (perhaps in visions) to tease out Ahsoka's motivations more. My main issue with the series was how the characters remained kinda opaque and action was prioritized over more material digging into them, which was odd considering how Rebels was far more willing to let its crew shine.

My thoughts as someone who adores Clone Wars and Rebels continues to grow in stature for me is that I enjoyed it but for me whenever the show has something interesting potentially happening in terms of character conflict it eschews it in favor of mystery or hitting plot points like moving a chess piece. This made the final episode really rushed in terms of having to resolve the main story but also trying to give service to the character moments (I wouldn't even call them arcs unfortunately).

More and more I'm becoming less a fan of this limited series type format and more and more I really wish these characters had their stories continue in animation.

Yeah, rewatched Rebels S1 recently and while it gets a lot of flak from certain corners of the fanbase for being too kid-friendly and whatnot I think it's just a much better season than Ahsoka structurally. Maybe Filoni just isn't comfortable writing for 8 longer live-action episodes compared to 15-20 shorter animated ones.
