Going to start Minions and with Minions a week after Lightyear that will really be my first comparison I can do at the t-7 mark so it will be nice to have that comp literally a week behind. For Minions I will track thurs for now and only start tracking Fridays at T-7 just to try and keep it consistent. Still working the lab and still trying to figure out what works best-thank you everyone for the likes and the support (and the patience!)

EDIT I have edited the numbers as apparently Mojo does indeed include Previews with their OD numbers-numbers are now as theyh appear (approx) on Mojo

IF there is a place that includes Thurs/Fri numbers OR if Mojo actually does include it in their friday count-let me know-or if anyone can suggest an easier place to find Thurs/Fri numbers would be appreciated.

Right, my bad I had an unexpected engagement this morning which I didn't get back home to till pretty close to now, so my Final Friday numbers are all over the place with shows already started/sold out and I don't think I can reasonably get an accurate count for Dominion for today-Im sorry about that Usually I do a final count of Friday first thing in morning, before theatres open-but didn't expect to be gone that long.

On the bright side I have been consecutively tracking Dominion since T-3 so at least I'll have T-3 onward comp numbers for myself for future films, have started lightyear at t-7 (which means Im going from tracking every few days to now tracking daily. this is all new to me. I think for my sanity I'll keep my tracking at most to t-7, I don't quite have availablity for tracking 20 plus days out consistently)

Right here goes my experimentation with comps. Please note that this will be a kind of work in progress lab for a bit as I play with formats and info styles-so please go easy on me if Im doing something and your first response is NONONONONO-Im trying to go into deeper water here. Also please note that because Im in Canada trying to get specific Canada comps might be tricky until I can find a source for Canada numbers. So numbers will be the combined US/Canada numbers-please try not to lose your minds trying to figure out comp stuff-like I said, this is going to be a bit of a labratory, so don your safety goggles lol. Will be using Lightyear as my first test subject. Lightyear SouthWest Ontario Thurs June 16 (taken June 10 10 theatres 33 shows Total sold 23 Total Remaining 6309 Total seats 6332 no sellouts Percentage .36 percent Friday June 17 10 theatres 34 shows Total sold 77 Total remaining 6529 Total seats 6606 no sellouts Percentage 1.17 Total seats sold for 2 days 100 out of 12915 percentage of .77 (Sorry thats .77 percent not 77 percent lol) my comp here is Boss Baby 2 it had an opening friday (going to assume thats including Thurs) of 7,805,390 So if I do my (awful) math right (ha) im getting 6.006 out of 77 percent out of 7.8 million, which would give a comp of 6.6 million. I know I messed up so hey chime in if you wish lol EDIT okay .77 percent not 77percent lol-mind you if one does a rule of thumb and x a factor of 100 making .77 a 77 percent- a 6.6 estimation for a Thurs/Friday isn't exactly out of the ballpark for a comp. Like I said, my labratory lol

Im about to start Lightyear comps for up here, so thank you for those as I try teaching myself comp stuff-is it okay if I copy those comps onto my sheets for now and future use (Im totally in the deep end here so I don't know if there are any unwritten rules here about copying info-obviously my comp numbers will be different because of different tix numbers, but even just having the names is a good start-even if I just put the final Thurs/Fri sales numbers to start before easing into mathy stuff)

Ive never been good at doing comps in the past so I haven't really put any down. through coincidentally funny you should ask as in the middle of this run, I suddenly decided to give another crack at comps so I am using the these 3 days till opening to record sales and percentages for future comps against other movies. I will be keeping tabs of movies going forward for comps Ive been want to try and do them and see if I can contribute more to the forums (might take trial and error though). As a result though, Sorry about not having comps for JWD edit-Top Gun looks like 60.37 for Thurs/Friday going by Rorschach recent post (again be gentle with me Im a babe and it takes me a while to learn this stuff lol)-Ill see if I can track down a Canada only numbers.

Its not the same demographic, but just saw (for me) first trailer for Black Adam with an Oct 21 release date, Oct could be an interesting month for releases.

Hard to say on the numbers for friday, maybe another day of sales-keep getting the feeling that this will be more a walkup/wom movie, which would be a bit of a surprise for this kind of IP. I would have thought that the tagline of "final jurassic" film might get people interested, esp with most of the original cast of original JP in it, but just seems some lukewarm so far. But we shall see how the days and weekend go

Welcome the forums! Universal has Jurassic, Fast/Furious, Minions/Despicable, Secret Life of Pets, Sing franchises just off top of my head. An underperform won't devastate them I don't think. Keeping this in the context of box office discussion to keep it on track, I think this movie even with a (for them) quieter opening, its summer holidays and I think in that context not to judge on the opening weekend because lots of families with time on their hands will have lots of walkups during June summertime stuff. Enjoy the forum! There are a lot of awesome people here and my joining certainly opened up my eyes as to how the box office really works, alot of knowledge here

yeaaaa....thats going to be a fun time.........gotta wonder how early they do presales for it......lessee Dec 16 is release date. have to think it would at least be post US Thanksgiving, maybe early to Mid Nov.

Ive often wondered how that worked in the US. Up here because of much aforementioned by me practice of Cineplex up here, advance sales very rarely are IMAX. They tend to be Regular, maybe AVX, some very odd IMAX, and of course much less inventory. I know there are some who will buy the Avx as a placeholder, to make sure they have a "seat", then when IMAX and inventory drops on the preceding wed, Ive seen numerous change ups of a regular or Avx seat "lose" some seats and IMAX "gain" the exact number of seats. But at least its a thing that you know the IMAX type theatres won't get put up till closer to the opening day. I can't imagine how US works, unless when there's an email or txt that says "your IMAX showing has been changed to another time, would you like to keep this time, or get a credit/refund for your show?" (I really don't know if it works that way or not), I know Id be a bit torqued if my show suddenly got "lost" esp if I had a busy schedule with no way of getting another time. Especially in the streaming age now where movies are pretty much in a limited run time at the theatre before hitting streaming. EDIT as an amusing little side notewhen Cineplex does put out the IMAX, they also let out a TON of "regular seating" inventory, which studying them on the day of a showing, the regular seats just are kind of their own little empty wasteland , multiple screens of maybe a half dozen people lol
