  1. Isn't the movie distributed by Tencent in China? I feel like they could probably have re-edited version for China. I imagine the movie isn't going to be a super hard R anyway
  2. Jesus can they just drop the trailer already Some nice teasers though, especially the one with the picture, they've upped their game with marketing. it was always planned for a trilogy, they've talked about it before shooting started
  3. Yeah nothing yet. A new trailer is overdue though, we're only 2 months away from release, it has to be very soon. I know the tagline of the movie is: “Welcome To The Day After Judgement Day”. Maybe tomorrow?
  4. I mean Venom was a hit and Spider-Verse won a freakin' Oscar and was widely praised. I think they gained some credibility with the IP which is why they aren't giving in so easily to Disney
  5. Batman is still a far more iconic character, it's not even close. I mean he has been at the forefront of pop culture for decades. Even my parents who don't give a shit about comic books know Batman well and have watched the Nolan trilogy. And so many memories... good movie bad movie doesn't matter we grew up with that character... I still remember watching the old tv show as a kid even though it wasn't a show from my generation, it was still airing regularly... Anyway it just feels so strange
  6. I'm fairly certain it won't be delayed again. There has only been one delay since production has started, the other delays were just Cameron doing other stuff and figuring out how many sequels he wanted to make and writing the scripts. Also this is not a 3 months delay or 6 months delay, it's a 1 year delay. That will give them plenty of time to catch up on whatever they need to, but as far as we know the delay might just be caused by Disney's scheduling plans.
  7. Right after it becomes the highest grossing movie again I suppose. 6 million over is that it? 10 years later?
  8. People think mistakenly that because Endgame didn't have monster legs, no other movie can. Because of more competition? It's true, movies like Avatar, Titanic, Jurassic Park or Star Wars didn't have competition, but not because there were no other movies, it's because they offered something unique other movies didn't. They were ground-breaking visual spectacles, they were "bigger" than everything else. There just hasn't been any movies like this since then. Remove what came before Endgame and your left with just another superhero movie. Infinity War has probably more to do with Endgame grossing $2.7 billion than Endgame itself. The Lion King is a good example that ground-breaking visual spectacle is still bringing crowds. The only reason it's not going to break all the records is because it's completely unoriginal, is having poor reviews, and uses the new tech in a questionable way. But even then, it's passing a billion dollar easy
  9. Goddamn you Cameron for making movies we have to see in the cinemas! But really, 3d had been around long before Avatar. It's everything else to go along with it that made it special. If it was just the 3d, people wouldn't have been impressed and it wouldn't have benefited from the insane word of mouth that it had. The fact that people today are shitting on 3d is actually a testament to how well made Avatar was, because they did everything around it well to make it look good, which isn't the case for most movies. The movie still look gorgeous and you can still see the painstaking attention to detail that was put in it: That shot of the shuttle plunging into the atmosphere at 1:53 is amazing, don't need 3d to see that. Really next level stuff for 2009
  10. 1 Avatar Fox $57,778,619 2008 before Avatar: 1 The Dark Knight WB $20,156,555 2 Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa PPI $16,949,456 12/12 3 Kung Fu Panda PPI $16,379,155 7/4 GODDAMN how much is a 3d ticket in Brazil? If that's not a dominant performance, I don't know what is
  11. That's cool but that doesn't concern me. Avatar sold itself as an experience you had to see in 3d and the extra money it made out of it is to its merit. Ok the earthquake fine, but that still doesn't explain why Avatar dominates basically all animation movies prior to its release. That seems to suggest the 3d craze gave them a boost
  12. well definitely not weak, less dominant perhaps? look at what came before and tell me Avatar looks weak: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/mexico/yearly/?yr=2009&p=.htm https://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/chile/yearly/?yr=2009&p=.htm https://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/brazil/yearly/?yr=2009&p=.htm https://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/argentina/yearly/?yr=2010&p=.htm Funny thing is even though Avatar got topped by Shrek and Toy Story in Argentina, they were both released in 3d riding on the craze Avatar created. And that brings back to my initial question, had these countries embraced 3d early on? Was the number of theaters offering it lacking? Endgame just doesn't look as dominant in Europe it's especially brutal in Japan... https://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/japan/yearly/?yr=2003&p=.htm go back to 2003 / 2002 and it still doesn't look that strong. Terminator 3 made more than Endgame in Japan TERMINATOR 3 can you imagine?
  13. This. It's not that simple This is one of the most important things to consider. How many countries just weren't prepared for this new 3d thing? Avatar demanded a significant adaptation from theaters and it's obvious not every country followed or had any idea what kind of success Avatar would be. It's not just China having 1/10th of the screens in 2009 from what it has now, you have to ask yourself that question for every country around the world, But I image precise data on that would be difficult to obtain. If Endgame was that much bigger, than why is Avatar so convincingly ahead in so many territories? Those countries didn't lose screens massively over the years did they? When Avatar grosses 2-3 times more in countries like France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Russia, Japan (more than 3x) etc. ER isn't saving you, especially when considering inflation on top of that. It's one thing that Avatar definitely has over Endgame, it had basically no weak territories (relative to the market at the time), truly a global phenomenon.
  14. Because it sold more 3d tickets? Let's be clear this is to the merit of the movie, it's what the movie was selling itself on. It's not some external advantage
  15. crazy thing is James Cameron was ahead of any other non-James Cameron movie by 1.67 billion when Avatar had finished its run. That's being ahead by more than the entire gross of the first Avengers movie. But yeah "weak"
  16. honestly they probably just did it this way because it would bring traffic to the Avatar account it's still signed by him and on his profile, I wouldn't read too much into that
  17. Who says it's to take back the crown? He did one for Titanic and did one for T2, why wouldn't he make one for his highest grossing movie ever? Especially one that is known for being a theater experience before anything else. Cameron is always very vocal about how he thinks his movies are made for the big screen, of course he will want to give a chance to those who haven't seen it in a theater. The only way this doesn't happen is if Disney quite literally decides to block him. Some people think Disney won't want Avatar to retake the crown over Endgame. I think it's silly, they already have the record, it's in the history books. I don't think they much care if another IP they are heavily invested in takes back the record.
