  1. and Avatar still managed to become the highest grossing movie despite the weather? What? I don't even know... ok I'm stopping there promise. Say whatever you want, that's enough for me
  2. It's not like putting Star Wars there was a very bold choice when the 2 highest grossing movies of all time had that release date, I wouldn't call that "changing the ball game". I'll leave it at that
  3. The point of better VFX in something like Avatar is to create a more tangible immersive experience. It's something that you feel while watching the movie, you don't need to be a discerning viewer
  4. You're not proving anything by linking low res crap like this. Listen it's not that Thanos is bad, but there is no case to make that this is better than what is in Avatar
  5. You don't know what you're talking about shot at 0:13 is as flawless as it's ever been
  6. I mean a lot of people are definitely saying this and more. It's not like everyone is saying it's mid, wom doesn't necessarily work like an average. It definitely has that "never before seen" factor, which is huge.
  7. I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with him, I think he does the job. For me he's like what Keanu Reeves was to The Matrix
  8. I wish they would put the French critics on RT instead of the UK ones 😆 they really love this movie holy shit. 13 5 stars review out of 32, only 2 negative ones. https://www.allocine.fr/film/fichefilm-178014/critiques/presse/
  9. A cinemascore, same as the first, I'll happily take it clearly a lot of people really LOVE this movie from the comments I'm seeing, but I can see where it doesn't work for everyone. Did not expect A+
  10. Well yeah it's a joke... But there is no doom n gloom for me. I don't know who here has personal stakes in how much a movie makes, but not me. It's just a game for me. If Cameron beats the record, cool! If he doesn't? Life goes on, it's not that serious. I think people claiming that expecting Cameron to do the same thing he has done twice in a row is "unrealistic" are bringing their own negativity here. Nothing wrong with dreaming big, just hoping for mid results is boring af in my opinion. Not that there is anything wrong with mid predictions, if that's what you believe is going to happen, then that's perfect. But why shame others for seeing big things?
  11. It's kind of funny but I hate the Avatar antifandom so much (omg my cartoon is so much better than the blue people movie!). It's the only reason I'm rooting for each Cameron sequel to make 3 trillion dollars
  12. Great fun but in all honesty, as a giant Cameron nerd, I don't think Avatar 2 is the world destroyer Titanic and Avatar were. It's not that it's better or worst, it's that those movies were essentially perfectly tuned blockbusters. Perfectly engineered to make boat loads of money. The main issue I think is the script, it's the first big movie Cameron is directing that was written by a writers' room instead of mostly just himself, and it shows. It's less focused, less efficient storytelling. But I'm only "disappointed" here because I was essentially hoping for some form of "perfection", which I didn't really get here. It also didn't help that I had to settle for a regular 3d screening and that of course, it wasn't bright enough. Definitely took away from the experience. Next time, I'm going to watch this on the best biggest screen available, maybe with slightly lowered expectations, and I know I'm going to have a great time because there is a lot of cool stuff in there. As for how much this movie will make? I had no idea before, I still have no idea now. I think it's the biggest wild card in history in terms of box office. But I won't be disappointed whatever it makes, whatever happens happens. If this isn't the big one, there is always the next one! (barring an unlikely catastrophe)
  13. I'm only bracing for how hard this movie is going to slap but thanks, your sincere concern is appreciated
  14. Something Cameron has undoubtedly succeeded at (and that's a crucial point if this is going to be a record run) is making something that people have not seen before. This is something he always sets out to do but even I didn't anticipate he would succeed at that so categorically. I expected to see a lot more of: "this looks just like the first Avatar!". Not at all. Even the worst reviews have to concede that it is technically impressive. This movie will clearly have that "it" factor going forward that will undoubtedly give it legs. How many times have I seen people saying things like: "oh nobody is impressed by CG anymore!", "vfx are so common now, Avatar will be nothing special!". Then you read something like this, and I've seen a lot of this kind of raving (top RT critic): https://www.reelviews.net/reelviews/avatar-the-way-of-water It still echoes some of the negative things that have been said, but it's clear that this movie has something special that will garner up a lot of curious who don't want to miss out
  15. excellent reviews in France avg 4.2/5 stars 6 5 stars reviews nothing below 3 https://www.allocine.fr/film/fichefilm-178014/critiques/presse/
