looks like the critic/journalist screenings are starting now ahead of the premiere late tonight. -
Just watched the original film from 1947, really great stuff. Shockingly bleak for the era. The trailers haven't done anything for me, but I generally love Del Toro and I'm curious to see what he adds. Its an extra 40 minutes in length which....we'll see.

Critics screenings sometimes do happen before the world premiere but I’m unsure as to if any have happened yet for this.
-
I still think the blogs and youtube critics on RT will get it just barely to fresh but I also would not be surprised to see this rotten. Spider-Man 3 and TASM 2 got slammed for being over stuffed...and this has 10x more stuff going on.

Saw it tonight. I really enjoyed it for the most part. I feel like it's actually closer to the original film than the sequels were in terms of how it felt.
How do you predict the critic/audience response is gonna be?

Still can't believe they passed on the obvious title of THE MATRIX REBOOTED
I’m just happy they didn’t call it Matrix, like how Scream 5 and Halloween 2018 are just the same name as the original. Rebooted may have been too on the nose but it fits the world.

Matrix Awakens is really fun. I missed realistic crashing in car driving games (most have removed it now due to licensing). They said they’re gonna add combat and other gameplay next year…so why not make a whole new Matrix game too??? Please!

I believe it's the 16th for Social embargo, 21st for review embargo.

The movie looks fun! The game seems to be taking a cue from that 3d Green Hill Zone fan made demo (that was super fun) but I don't trust Sonic Team in the slightest so I'll wait for reviews.

The first Sonic movie was cute, def better than I expected but it was painfully obvious that it was originally shot as a completely removed generic kids film with the video gamey aspects added in reshoots. The second one is presumably gonna be more video gamey from the start so I'm excited.

So Spider-Man 3 is...decent? Like obviously there are many problems (Venom, the amnesia plot for Harry Osborn) but I like how it explores Peter and MJ's relationship (again MJ by far is the character I have grown on the most with this rewatch).
Sandman is a good antagonist but with how his character is left of after this film I'm curious how NWH will handle him.
Definitely would have liked a Spider-Man 4 to see if Raimi could have made a movie on par with 1 and 2 but as far as an unplanned conclusion it's not a bad place to end the series.
I find with 3, all the pieces are there. The content in the film is good...it just suffers from there being too much to cover over one movie and lacks the well paced structure of 1-2.

Matrix 1 was so great in IMAX. I never get tired of that film, I wish they played 2-3 in IMAX as well.

The middle section in London was too long, so many repeating scenes. I hate that Ralph Fiennes' M needs to have so much screentime now post Skyfall (where it made sense to have a big focus on M) when he should just be Bond's boss that's in there for a few minutes. Final third gets back on track but the villain is a non starter and the ticking clock of the climax is so vague that it's hard to get invested into it.

I was infatuated with Courtney Cox in the 90s, but she looks... really odd now.
I guess Ghostface isn't the only character wearing a mask in this lol

Tickets finally dropped in Canada, Spidey taking all the good IMAX times or just all screens in general. Sucks because most of my friends can't catch a 12pm or 10:30pm showing on a Wednesday may have to go regular for my first showing. The Dolby showings are all going to Spidey too except one theatre thats an hour drive away.

That second movie killed this franchise dead imo. We only have 11 pages for this thing. The world has moved on.
That plus its been so long now with nothing.

Wachowski ideas are always divisive so i expect the same reception for Ressurections since the beginning.
Still i hope it's divisive like Cloud Atlas which still manage to be more inclined to positive and stays fresh at RT.
If it's rotten i think lots of people will throw this under the bus before even watch it because many people believes RT is a undeniable truth.
I think critics now are more likely to warm up to its ambitions than in the past, I expect it to be a bit higher than Reloaded's RT score, mid to high 70s at least.

Got excited when I saw Toronto added but its a single showing that sold out a week ago. If it wasn't for Memoria this year I'd find this limited release one showing schedule very obnoxious.

Didn’t Hugo Weaving refuse to come back for Marvel and Transformers?
Yes but he's publicly said he wanted to come back for Matrix.

If I recall, he was asked back for the Matrix, but the pandemic ended up messing with that.
It was a conflict with a stage show but then it got resolved but Lana changed her mind. It's confusing. I'm bummed he isn't returning, he's the best character and the new guy doesn't do the best impression. Imagine the shock at the end of trailer 1 if it was Smith talking to Neo in that office.
-
Canadian theatres are the best, they never tell you what time tickets drop and they're always dropped randomly after the US.
New trailer seems more indicative of the film itself vs the hype machine of the first trailer, looks so good and I'm sure they're still hiding A LOT of the movie.

Now that screenings are happening, that Critic's Choice site is sitting at a 55/100.
