It's admittedly early, but I think that The Batman has a chance of dethroning Jurassic World for the title of biggest opening weekend in June.

So, how much do these reviews change in terms of this movie's prospects at the box office?

People were iffy on the designs for Zootopia, too.

I'd say it's a race between either this or Soul in terms of which animated movie will take the worldwide crown.

Minions is still going to make bank, but it is going to see a noticeable drop from the other movies. I'm thinking $700-850m.

I can maybe see some of these picks cracking the list, but Minions 2 is not going to be one of them.

$100m domestically or $100m worldwide?

Soul isn't out til June. We'll most likely get a second trailer in March and the full marketing campaign will being shortly thereafter once Onward is out in theaters.

What are we predicting as far as opening weekend?

Well, I'd say it's possible, but not guaranteed.

I'm predicting that either Soul or Raya and The Last Dragon will beat Minions: The Rise of Gru to become the highest grossing animated movie of 2020.

Also pretty reasonable.

I say $200-$250M is a good benchmark.

3-5 years ago, I would have agree with you. But the franchise has been out of the spotlight for 3 years and has seen a steady decline domestically. Moreover, we just saw a sequel to a major hit for Illumination fizzle out with The Secret Life of Pets 2.

March 2020 is where we'll also likely get a full trailer for Soul.
