  1. This is most likely getting written off for taxes much like Coyote vs Acme is about to. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if both are announced at the same time since Warner's earnings call or something is coming up.
  2. They don't have anything dated beyond that, so they're probably rethinking their approach regardless. And seeing as any of these spinoffs not starring Venom have plagued Sony with bad headlines without making enough of a profit to soothe the resulting stings, it's not hard to see why. Speaking of this movie, am I the only one who was expecting this to go through massive reshoots after that huge delay? They could've easily opened it this past weekend and still dodged the strikes. But with half a year to go without any news pointing to said kind of reshoots, it seems like Sony really was that afraid of the strikes escalating.
  3. Summer 2019 was such a bloodbath. If you weren't Disney or didn't have the Mouse connection back then, it was red ink for you.
  4. To put into perspective how much the landscape has changed in the past 4-5 years: this weekend, not only did a romantic comedy, a genre flatlining for the past decade now, beat a big budget Marvel blockbuster domestically, but another Marvel-based movie got absolutely bodied by a biopic with mixed critical reception. It's honestly insane to see a genre that used to instantly print money as recently as last decade radically transform into a high-risk punchline. The characters who ascended to the top during the golden age will likely still print money, as seen by Spider-Man and that Deadpool trailer's metric. Those who couldn't will gradually fade away from the spotlight and become "that weirdo my grandpa was obsessed with when he was a kid". It'll be interesting for sure to see if any other genre becomes the new top dog in the years to come, or if wealth will be a lot more evenly distributed across the board in a new market without the record breaking highs but with far higher lows.
  5. Make that "glorious". Endgame crowds will look like an addiction rehab group compared to us Sonic fans.
  6. Madame Web is going to drop like a rock. It's the worst movie I've ever seen. It's basically what the likes of Morbius or Cats would be without the meme value. And I feel like I'm not alone in thinking that.
  7. I have no words. This was the worst movie I've ever seen. Shoddy direction, unbelievably stupid and inept writing, wooden acting, and ugly cinematography form a movie that somehow makes Morbius look like a masterpiece. I'm amazed a movie this shitty was deemed good enough for theaters.
  8. This was originally set to be out a week before that, right? Makes one wonder how much worse The Marvels would've performed. It already had trouble barely crossing the $200M mark worldwide even with being the sole action tentpole of its month.
  9. The versatility of Godzilla as a character and brand is the core reason why we've all loved him for over 70 years, and why he will never truly die. He can effortlessly transform into whatever any given era's people want him to be during their lifetimes. He started off as a haunting allegory for nuclear warfare and its effects on the Japanese, and now he has become a big budget action hero protecting our world from total annihilation. And he doesn't always have to be locked into one role, as he can be either depending on what story any given filmmaker wants to tell. And as long as his flexibility is preserved, Godzilla will always be an immortal icon. In an era where many franchises are fading away into dust, he stands tall, and will likely outlast them all. Long live the king.
  10. Funnily enough Jeff Sneider also presented him as an option. Speaking of Sneider, he claimed on his most recent podcast that apparently David Leitch was actually let go by Amblin rather than just leaving like the trades implied. And the reason for that is that his producing partner Kelly McCormick wasn't happy with the budget presented and tried to meddle with it. And the producers weren't happy with that. He also dropped a bonus tidbit regarding why Legendary didn't return to finance Dominion. Apparently shortly after the first Jurassic World they tried to pitch a spinoff movie to the Amblin suits. They didn't like that, and subsequently let them go from the franchise (and possibly even burned their bridge with Universal). Make of these what you will.
  11. Well, colour me surprised. This looks a lot better than I'd expected going off of the leaks claiming this'd have the bland What If look. This trailer definitely won me over, so I'll watch this, especially since I could use a good primer into the X-Men pathos before they eventually make it back to film. I wonder why we've been getting such a big Marvel news blowout this week. The Deadpool 3 trailer, the Fantastic Four cast and this were all unleashed within less than a week of each other. I worry it's because some awful news is about to leak out in the next day or two and this is them trying to get ahead of that by dropping these big announcements. The memory of the Hugh Jackman reveal dropping on the same day Blade lost its first director is too fresh in my mind. I really hope that's not the case, and that this is them just trying to win their fans back after the rough couple of years they've gad.
  12. Denis "Lisan al-Gaib" Muad'Dib will save us all. Exhibitors just need to grit their teeth for a couple more weeks!
  13. After how lukewarm Marvel's output has been these past couple of years, everyone has every right to be skeptical. And Pedro Pascal, while beloved, is a pretty unconventional choice for a character like Reed Richards.
  14. I will say, them announcing this cast now and not at Comic-Con is a likely indication they'll be sitting this year out too. Because let's face it, this is the only trump card they had for that, and they chose to play it now. If they still go this year, then all they'll have to show are Disney+ fodder.
  15. That actually is a detriment to this movie, as Black Widow was not exactly a crowdpleaser. There's obviously the matter of Thunderbolts not being a known property and Marvel no longer having the goodwill to prop such properties up. They're actually taking a big risk here by still going full steam ahead with this movie, even going as far as moving the release up. There's something to be said for that.
  16. Jurassic isn't making that date, and we all know it. Also, while Fantastic Four isn't an S-tier property, it definitely stands a hell of a lot more of a chance against Superman's third weekend than Thunderbolts ever could.
  17. I feel like they're too far along now to pull the plug, and/or are proud of what they have now after the creative overhaul last year. We'll just have to wait and see at this point.
  18. Pedro sounds odd as Reed on paper, but he has the talent to make it work. I have no issues with the rest. Changing places with Thunderbolts is also a good idea, as that one would've been destroyed by Superman.
