what do you mean? Dune in Italy? It was released on a Thursday. Its result is from a 4 day weekend while all the last marvel movies and any other american blockbuster got 5 days first weekend.

Is Italy the only country where this movie was released on Thursday instead of Wednesday like for every other big american release in pandemic from Tenet to Shang Chi?. This can make a further difference in the confrontations of the first weekends. Anyway i don't understand why Warner made this decision here.

Oh and in Latina America is gonna make similar numbers to Europe... you know thing like Best or second best debut of the year in different markets.

at least here in italy 3D screenings were really rare. I think something between the 5- 10% of all the cinemas got it and not more than 2 shows for day in that format.

I mean it's not that hard. The trailer is a big and spectacular with big numbers. The cast has Chalamet and Zendaya and they are big on the social network and upon kids and young audience. They have Momoa from Acquaman, Bardem, Oscar Isaacs. All togheter. This just click with big audiences. People just want a new mature franchise and this is was well crafted and the casting is good.

The theater exclusive in Europe helps for sure but still numbers are bigger than expected ad you were talking about IP popularity. No a sci fi book written by an american author which sold the 70% of its total copies in the Us is not more popular in Europe How if now his prediction is a little bit better than how he thought after the first day when he said 30M?

After the numbers in Europe why are you people still so negative? I guarantee to you 90% of people going to watch this movie in Europe in this weekend didn't read the book. My brother saw this yesterday with 2 friends on Imax 3d and he said to me the movie was so good and spectacular and similar to Star Wars but after the movie he discovered the book is from 1965. He didn't knew it was a book at all lol. And now he wants to read the book. Speaking of this the book is right now #2 on Amazon here in Italy. In some way this means people want more of this story .. I guess. So the movie makes his job.

I don't know. Maybe the over the estimations success in the rest of Europe can push it there

this is a point too but i have two friends still not full vaccinated and they didn't come to the theaters because of that, they come to see Tenet. In some regions the percentage of people not full vaccinated under 30 is like at around 40% (!). How can this not be a very impactful factor. The 35% of kids 12-19 (national percentage) is not vaccinated.

This is around +40% from first Saturday for Tenet and Black Widow. And so the biggest pandemic era saturday. What's interesting this movie has also the green pass rules so you can go at the cinema only if you are vaccinated (double doses). 23.5% of the population still doesn't have it, this percentage of course became bigger and bigger if we count under 65 people, under 40, unnder 30 and so on.

This is gonna have a better multiplier than BD 2049. I think the estimation for Europe (without the united Kingdom) is too conservative. With an even not out of this word word of mouth (but just it's good and you have to watch it on a screen) 150M are a safe goal.

Best movie since Harry Potter

424k second day in Italy. Bigger than the big first day. It should be the biggest friday in pandemic! The growth is even bigger cause the first day numbers including previews. They weren't big like in germany or france but in only 5 Imax screen but my estimates was at around 20K euros. So it got a +7-8% from the first day. It shoud easily beat the record for the biggest pandemic OW with 2-3-2.4 M. But at this point who knows, pre sales for today seem really big. Let's see if it can go near to 3M 😄

Hbo max has killed literally every movie at the box office but Dune and Matrix can be exceptions and still approaching 70-80M the first e 150 the second one. If dune makes at least 200 overseas (It's doing better than Bd 2049 e definitely the word of mouth will be better so it can do it. Bd 2049 made 170M) I think this movie will not make less than 300M.

As i said this movie was very awaited by some fans in the first day but not in that kind of frontloaded of famous movie franchises or sequels especially for kids and a young audience. So it still has a room to grow and seeing my theaters maybe today in Italy should be the same. And well not only because of its target but I guess at this point the word of mouth is impacting too.

Still thinking in Europe this as mature sci fi has an older audience waiting to go to see it on saturday and sunday. Here in italy BD 2049 went from a 334k friday to a 697K saturday. So i hope it can still go more near to the 40M.

Errata corrige: Dune in Italy is in the same 780-800 screens range of Tenet and BD 2049 Well it's better for saturday and sunday. Both days it shoud definitely grew up from the first day. Let's see.

Great start in Italy 419K euros. This is the second best pandemic start for a foreign movie and the third overall. Tenet made 404K but Tenet got 791 screens on first day, Dune only around 500 (in few hours i will say how much exactly). Tenet made a 2M 4 day, i guess Dune should have a similar tracking with a more adult audience than shang chi and black widow on saturday and sunday. 4 days for BD 2049 274K 334k 697k 682k This got 779 screens too (!). So everything seems good for Dune. The first day was of course more frontloaded than BD 2049 but it made a solid +52%. So in my opinion being september (and not august like for tenet) it can approach 2M+. Foreign record is 2.015.000 for Black Widow (1.984.000 for Tenet) An italian movie for children (me contro te) has the best opening overall but really near, 2.178.000 euros.
