  1. I didn't say they are good or bad just maybe the movie has still a box office potential. For what i read Critics are having a problem with the plot of the musical and its meaning but if he has found a big audience before maybe people like this story.
  2. Don't forget The greatest Showman has 48 on Metacritic and even some 0/10. Bohemian Raphsody has 49 on Metacritic. He won some oscars. Critics hated them because there were "problematic" for some reason. They both were huge at the box office and we can maybe call them modern classics as musicals. Critics call In the Heights a masterpiece even if it was bland in cinematic terms, but i guess NOT problematic (what really matters). Everyone forgot about it after 10 days.
  3. This is a sci fi movie so hardcore is going to make a 70-75 M OW even with HBO Max
  4. Why they released Dune one month before in the countries without Hbo Max? It's the first time this happens this year so maybe things can still change. If dune makes good in the first two weeks outside the Us they can still change for Dune and Matrix.
  5. I appreciate it's not just a nostalgia copy of the first movie (its a trend with the revivals of old franchises in the last years) but it seems something really ordinary,
  6. The Martian by Ridley scott opened with 54M dollars. I think in a normal context Dune could have been a similar opening. People are so pessimistic about this movie cause the predictions for BD 2049 were like 50-60M for the OW and then it made the half. This is just a different movie from BD 2049. . This is an epic sci fi story from a popular book. This has a good cast and the trailer made good numbers. The recent final trailer on WB account alone has 18M views, BD 2049 final trailer has 14M views after 4 years. Even Arrival, an original, opened with 24M, just a short under BD2049 . So it's not like every Villenueve movie has to flop now. BD 2049 failed for so many reasons, Dune is different,
  7. IT got a huge young audience because of the stranger things feeling they gave to all the operation and the good marketing around the clown figure. We all know selling horror movies is easier. In no way the success of the movie was THAT big because the novel was THAT big upon the under 30s target. IT is a cult novel for the horror fans. Dune is a cult for the sci fi fans. It has 887K votes on goodreads. Dune has 904k votes. Dune has its own target: the sci fans. Can it get the casual younger audience or even the kids?. That's the question. The movie has Chalamet and Zendaya. I guess they're at least something more than Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
  8. No surprise, at the TIFF Dune was the first to go sold out days ago. Same in Venice. Anyway with 3 new reviews on RT it goes from 85% to 87%. For what it matters 😄
  9. Twitter is a bubble. I don't think it flopped because of some controvery about the cast, Dear Evan Hansen is one of the most successfull musical of the last years and it's momentum is still here (you can say the same for wicked even if it's almost from 20 years ago). In the heights momentum was already gone 10 years ago 😅
  10. This might be what Terminator 2 was to Terminator. The same kind of story with some reversed plots. Neo seems like the new Morpheus and maybe even a evil Neo? It's a better idea than going to the "Terminator Salvation" again like they did with the first two sequels.
  11. this could have be the perfect movie to launch a new sensational teen star. Ben Platt is like really killing the potential. I watched his performance on America's got talent and He's really a great musical actor but sadly in the trailer He seems really ridicolous. They should have chosen someone looking like this Anyway if the film is good and with good I mean really crowd pleasing it can still find an audience I guess.
  12. here in Italy BD 2049 made a 5.5 M total. Black Panther made 7.2 M 😅 Anyway yes in general BD 2049 did good OS with a 170M total. Only 11 M in china so 156 M OS without China. If you remove from a lot of so called successfull movies of the last years the huge results in China maybe you get something arounf BD 2049 numbers. They just have 50-75M more in the us and same in China.
  13. These are the 3 screenings in my theater for the first day (10 days before). And the first day is a Thursday!.
  14. Anyway as I said yesterday here in Italy the pre sales are really really solid, i have read on twitter same in Germany too. I don't know about others european countries. From the actual previews I can say here it could beat the record for the best OW in the pandemic. Right now the record is at around 2-2.1 M for Black Widow. Surely It will beat Shang li which opened with 1.5 M. Previews are so much better than the last marvel movie.
  15. Joker got a lot of 20s from publications which are not movie or entertainment magazine or newspapers. This is why It was high after Venice and then drops. So the reasons of the bad reviews are basically political, because of that kind of movie during the Trump era and so on.. We know Dune has been accused for being a movie with a white saviour but it's an old novel so i don't think people will be angry about that like if it were a new story made in 2021. It won't be so hated by NYT, New Yorker, Time, The Atlantic and all these magazins really interested more to the cultural aspect of a movie than its cinematic values.
  16. Mhh no, not less than 80% of rotten tomatoes even when everything is done. This movie has nothing to share with WW 1984 😄
  17. Mhh jungle cruise and cruelia got the green light for a sequel and they just recover their budget. A free guy's sequel was in talk already before the good results in China. So i guess in this year, in this era taking the budget back when you are also in some vod streaming service is already...kinda good?. I think 200M are already acceptable.
  18. I thinks the part 2 of Dune is like already there to be announced. I don't understand why netflix can make a lot of 200M blockbusters just for the Vod while Warner Bros (owned by AT&T since 2018. They have a double income for year than Disney + Fox) can't do it. Now they have also a vod service. Warner bros wants a new universe to use on screen, with tv series and so on. They are resurrecting even Matrix cause that harry potter spin off is full of problems and it's not doing very well. The dc comic movies are really incostant. They want a new franchise, a new large universe. The only thing can kill Dune is the first movie making less than 100M ww.. is someone really seeing a flop like that coming?. They are still sayin "well we don't know" during the promotion cause they want the fans to go to theater if they can. If they would say "yes the sequel is official" right now before the release people would watch it on Hbo Max more easily
  19. yeah this is very important. I'm gonna quote an italian review from Federico Gironi, an importan italian movie critic. He really doesn't like Villenueve but he wrote "The sets, the costumes, the design of the spaceships, weapons and the objects are honestly really impressive and even as you know I'm not a fan of Villenueve cause I find him too much serious I have to admit his direction here is a magniloquent spectacle, something really uncommon nowadays. The cast is great, i'm not a big fan of Chalamet but he's a perfect Paul and the rest is also really good, except for Josh Brolin". (poor josh!) So you're right even most of the negative reviews are like "this is is really large in the best possible way and something impressive to see".
  20. My friend said to me the movie is audience-friendly. The tone is epic, the world building is slow but really captivating. If the mass loves things like game of thrones can love this. The characters are like "bigger than you" in every sense and it's fascinating watching them. The only comparison with BD2049 is his opinion is for the slow rhythm in the first hour but everything else from the plot to the characters and the settings is more appealing for a mainstream audience than "a sci fi noir" like BD 2049. It's another genre, this movie is massive.
  21. yes. The book is not famous as in the english countries but you can say the same for marvel comics or even the lord of the rings books. Nothing of this was like Harry Potter 😄
  22. Here in italy for Dune there are paragraphs only about actors. A paragraph only in praise of kristen stewart as Diana in a movie about Diana Spencer of course is easier to make. And anyway the non english critics are not so positive about Kristen Stewart. I have read some really bad review about her, one of the biggest critic here in italy (the one from the most read newspaper, Corriere della sera) wrote she is a joke in the role.. But i know is still oscar material. After George V, , Queen Anna, Queen Victoria, Elizabeth the first, Elizabeth the second and I don't know how many others we definitely need another Oscar to a member of the english Royal family. Now waiting for Meghan Markle 😅
  23. italian reviews about the cast: "Chalamet is so charismatic in this. Every silence has its weight and it's perfect. You are just waiting for him to talk and every time he does you just listen" (badaste.com) "Chalamet and Rebecca ferguson together are so powerful as mother and son." (la repubblica) "The young divo Chalamet is objectively perfect in this" (il giornale) "The casting was great.. Momoa and all the supportive cast is not directed just in a "muscular way. Chalamet is the perfect Paul Autrides and Rebecca Ferguson steals the show" (wired.it) "Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson are masterful, but no one was a bad choice cast here." (screenmovie.it)
  24. I only read italian reviews. Here everyone is praising all the cast but for Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson there are really really great reviews. For Chalamet is really hard to get an Oscar nom for a role like this (he has few lines of dialogues) but i think as non pro Rebecca Ferguson can have some chance.
