True but also, building lots of tension to reveal something we've seen time and time again for the past 28 years won't work either. I do agree it looks sloppily directed/edited, though.
King Richard feels a bit misguided and I wonder if that affected its bo performance. I get that the Williams sisters signed off and all, but they could still be wrong about the best way into the movie. When you watch the real-life footage of the girls, and suddenly it cuts to the title KING RICHARD!, it certainly feels misguided.
Jane Fonda ROCKED the box office in 1980 and 1981 as actress and producer one last time with "9 to 5 "and "On Golden Pond" before revolutionizing the fitness and VHS industries, and then retiring.
Enough good stuff here to recommend the movie, but it loses its focus as it goes, with repetitive scenes that don't build on each other like in the meticulously crafted Black Swan. B-
Does the Rock have chemistry with ANYONE? He has this weirdly asexual vibe, reminiscent of Will Smith but worse. When I was watching the Mummy rip-off called The Jungle Cruise, I kept thinking about that seeing him with Emily Blunt, and their lack of sparks compared to Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz. Anyway, needless to say, Red Notice is horrible because I couldn't get past the first 15 minutes.
Gucci seems to be getting a mixed/negative critical reception which will affect box office. This may be due in part to the fact that actress-worshipping critics (who are very vocal on Twitter) have selected Spencer as their movie to support this year. Last year it was Promising Young Woman. They seem to relate more to movies where women are victimized.
Admittedly the Jumanji sequel was fun and in many ways superior to the original. But Ghostbusters is not only great, it's a very specific tone that is difficult to recapture. It's kid-friendly but it's not a movie for kids per se. It's a horror comedy special effects hybrid that had no reason to work the way it did, and it's hard to make it work again.
Spencer flopping is no surprise. It's a slog with Kristen Stewart whispering in a wig (Americans resort to whispering when it comes to accents since they can't do them) and never for one second making you believe she's Diana. Only the DP deserves praise.
KStew is total box office poison outside of Twilight. Snow White & The Huntsman did well but that was sold on Charlize's Evil Queen character. Everything else has bombed.
I think the gay Madonna fan critics like Erik are fully Team Kristen this year. They consume their camp through RuPaul but prefer their cinema to be understated, elegant. Queen of just staring coldly while she acts, Isabelle Huppert, is their idol.
Did they reboot MI again with like Will Smith in 2008 after the 2006 instalment underperformed compared to the previous one? And then after that had run its course, reboot it again with Chris Pratt in like 2015?
I honestly stopped paying attention. There's actually so much good content out there it became possible to ignore superhero movies and for the most part, movie theatres in general. They feel like a thing of the pas already. Good content is no longer in theatres.
