  1. I have to think Legendary is feeling vindicated about throwing a fit about WB’s day-and-date streaming strategy in 2021 after how Dune and Kong have performed in March.
  2. Kind of a bummer if it does. People will be talking about Dune 2 in 20 years. Pretty sure nobody will remember this Kong movie.
  3. Looks like a great hold. Only 12% drop from last Thursday.
  4. I’d like to see it hit $700 million WW.
  5. If it can have a solid hold this weekend, should be a good sign of strong legs in April.
  6. Totally agree. It got old a long time ago. I’d agree it’s not as food as Fallout, but it’s on par with the recent MI movies going back to Ghost Protocol. There seems a to be a group of Cruise haters who saw “blood in the water” from the underperformance and who are taking advantage of that to feast on a negative narrative.
  7. It truly is a movie you have to experience on the big screen—the biggest you can, if possible. I know art is subjective, but I have a hard time understanding how anyone could find this movie boring or mediocre (looking at you, Ehrlich! Lol) Score is awesome, too. I fear the Academy won’t give this movie the accolades it deserves, but I’m confident it will stand the test of time over whatever it loses to. I hope we get Messiah sooner rather than later. And we need to see some spacing guild and a navigator next time!
  8. If Sony did fudge the numbers, is there any precedence for this? That eventually has to come to light (possibly with a correction weeks from now), right?
  9. Is that the current theory? Sony fudged the weekend numbers to make it look better?
  10. I’m hoping it can get to $700M worldwide. Wish it could have connected more outside of domestic and Europe.
  11. Awesome Dune number. Hopefully the weekend estimate edges up a bit. If Dune can hold decently next weekend, it could be in for some good April legs.
  12. I’m not gonna get my hopes up. It’s losing a lot of PLFs and the weekend gross has often been below expectations based on weekday holds.
  13. Hoping its drop this weekend can stay under 50%.
  14. Spring Break is not uniform across the US, which I imagine is the case this year and in 2023 and 2022, so it’s not like Dune has an advantage Batman and Creed didn’t.
  15. Only way it would work is if Messiahs plot is padded with the events of the jihad. That requires creating instead of adapting material, though. I expect Denis to take more liberties with Messiah than Dune, but not that much!
  16. Perhaps a more interesting discussion is why Avatar hasn’t been embraced by the nerdy/geek subculture in the way other properties have. My theory is that it doesn’t really offer any unique or new ideas because its characters, concepts, and plots are just too generic and/or copied from other sources.
  17. That’s awesome news, but is $700M+ really locked?
  18. Okayish performance in Asia, primarily. Taking out Russia and Ukraine, if it makes $400M internationally, it will be a 49% increase from Part 1, which I think is good, especially since Part 1 was a pure theatrical release in 2021, so the domestic impact of day and date release didn’t play a role. And, it’s already slated to blow past Across the Spiderverse internationally, which is a much more popular and accessible IP.
  19. Gladiator 2 is especially interesting. In terms of legacy sequels, will it be an Independence Day 2 (critical and BO bomb), Blade Runner 2049 (critical hit, BO bomb), or Top Gun Maverick (critical and BO hit)? I’m hoping it’s a return to form for Scott, at the very least.
  20. I’ve always thought spring break wasn’t always that uniform or consistent from year to year, unlike other break or holiday times. That said, regardless, the next two weeks are huge for its remaining legs with Ghostbusters and GxK coming out.
  21. Don’t know about that. I’m on the west coast and spring break starts this week.
  22. Can’t disagree more about Zendaya and Chalamet. If anything, from what I’ve seen, most people are seeing Zendaya as a standout in the movie. But, hey, we all don’t need to agree on art!
