This is just silly. Audience reception has been amazing. It’s okay you didn’t care for the movie, but your opinion isn’t fact. I get people who found Part 1 boring. I really liked it, but it definitely could have been better. Part 2 has a lot more energy and significantly better action. Seriously, I wish Denis could have a do-over on the action set pieces from Part 1 (minus the big sandworm-harvester scene, which I think is pretty much perfect).

It’s amazing how well Dune is doing relative to Oppenheimer considering it doesn’t have some of the same advantages that movie had (summer legs, Barbieheimer phenomenon, and weak post-release competition for several weeks). Next two weeks will be the real test for Dune’s legs with Ghostbusters and Godzilla x Kong coming out. Ghostbusters won’t really be a major threat internationally unlike GxK, but both will be threats on Dune’s domestic legs. -

What is the general reasonable consensus on Dune Part 2’s projected WW total when its run is finished? Still a shot at $700M WW? Or has the performance in Asia plus lack of Russia killed that dream? -
They are just starting to get marketing ramped up again, so I’m not really worried at this point. However, the number of YT trailer views for the 3rd trailer are quite low. Not sure how much stock to put in that, but it is something to be mindful about.

Glad this is getting a China release. First one didn’t okay in China given the recent context of how Hollywood movies are performing there. Not sure if it will do much better. Hopefully so.

Messiah will be a very tricky adaptation. Fans of Dune either love it or hate it. Not a lot of in-between. Personally, they are going to need to do a lot to to make it interesting to the GA after action packed Part 2.

I’d like a John Wick 4 OW, but agree that anything above $60M would be really good.

Not sure about a $100 million opening, but that would be awesome. I’m not watching the trailers, but it sounds like this most recent one is a banger. Sadly, on YT at least, views are well off pace from the first two trailers.

Hopefully walk ups are stronger than expected. Would love to see this have a $40+ OW stateside.

I like Blunt, but IMO her performance is paint-by-the-numbers.

I liked Part 1 and am a big Dune fan, but Part 1 was not a hallmark of efficient use of runtime. There was a way to beef up the traitor subplot and the action. The ending knife fight was a letdown in a lot of ways.

Considering Wonka is currently running at least 50% ahead of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which made $475M WW, what is this one looking to make? I suppose a lot depends on the domestic numbers, but is at least $500 M WW looking like a safe bet?

Gonna be a lot of people disappointed that this movie becomes a success. Especially those who want to create some kind of fanboy war over whether Chalamet or Holland are bigger box office draws.

Agreed. Last one wasn’t as good as Fallout, but it was still great. Lot of trolls with a hate boner for this franchise for some reason.

I’m optimistic Dune Part 2 can surpass Part 1. Competition will be weak for its release date and Timothee could be a lot more popular with the GA if Wonka breaks out. Whole cast could help too.

Yeah, I could see it being another Across the Spider Verse, but I could also see a disappointing decrease ala MI7.

This movie is another good example of how RT has skewed how most people evaluate movies. If a movie is not 85+, then it’s “meh.” Based on the current reviews, the movie has pretty good reception. Not Paddington 2 level, but still pretty good. Good enough that it’s all up to audience reception now.

This movie allegedly has a budget of up to $160M, yet it looks infinitely better than any MCU movie ever made in terms of visuals.

I imagine they are just recycling the panel they would have done at Comic Con if the strikes hadn’t happened.

New Character Posters Revealed Look pretty good. Similar style to what they did with Part 1, which I know a lot of people made fun of . . . until every other blockbuster proceeded to copy it.
