I remember a case study in biz management where Disney internally didn't let people say negative things or criticisms during meetings. They were only allowed to say a current good thing then propose a good thing to work towards or do. So if your burgers were dry hockey pucks you weren't supposed to acknowledge that, you would have to say our burgers have excellent toppings, and I think it would be great if the patties were juicy to match! It's good for them to make changes, but they need to assure audiences they heard their critiques, they have taken to heart what was wrong, and that they don't want to mess up like that again or the audiences are just not coming back. There are so many SW fans that are lost unless Disney can say TLJ was a mistake and Luke story should have been better.

Fans are buying tickets to donate to other people. We are in a recession, lots of older people on fixed incomes are going to be interested in this movie. They are real retail purchases. The purchase goes to angel studio and is held until it is claimed. The purchase is not going to the exhibitors 1st, so they are affecting the BO numbers when claimed at the exhibitor. You can go to their website and probably see how many PIF tickets are available to see what is still out there. There is nothing nefarious about charity. "free" is not free. A church purchasing a theater for a Sunday easter movie does not make the tickets "free". NGOs also bought tickets and theaters out for Black Panther and Cpt. Marvel. The box office =/= popularity which seems to be the major contention being had over the "free" tickets. If it meant popularity we would all demand every movie be adjsuted for inflation and talk about # of tickets sold. A 14m movie has done extremely well. Also MI7 is fine. I would have liked to see 20m opening day, but it is a franchise with strong consistency and legs. Anything over 200m is a normal performance and I still see 250m.

MI series does 10-12x previews IM, 3.5 legs, 30/70 domestic / foriegn split. This is opening is right in line and supressed by not only discount Tuesday but an adult audience that has no time on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I see 90-110m with a final of 250-280

Isn't funny how it's always these movies that get this treatment? This board has jumped the shark and went more Mao than reddit on this film. 1) a movie is allowed to just be entertainment and offer emotional catharsis 2) there is no group of people that own the right to present a chathartic movie or an audience that doesn't have a right to it 3) none of us know any of these people, or what they have been through for how they needed to make sense of the world. I watched an interview of Tim Ballard today talking about having to watch hours of child abuse videos to write evidence reports for court. And you know what? I don't care that a guy like that needs to believe in objective evil and god, and make sense of his work by thinking he is on a mission from god. My brother was a communications specialist in Iraq where he had to document the hostage, torture, and execution videos. That was almost 20 years ago and he still isn't normal. He cannot function on any productive level and lays back in a recliner watching MASH and war movies repeatedly. Why? B/c nothing is important anymore and misses having purpose. So if a guy like Ballard has to believe his is on a mission from God and is able to turn that into saving some kids along the way, maybe stop criticizing how he thinks of himself, talks about himself, or gets it done, and just be happy is functioning and some kids are safer. This board and it's reaction to the movie is an embarassment. This is never what leftism was, this is extremism that the marxist perverted the left with. This is not tolerance, empathy, understanding, or respect for others.

It's so good, people are getting more then they expect I think. I was expecting a Taken / Death Wish action movie, and it is none of that. It is an extremely tasteful drama, and without the cathartic release of action it ends up being just gut wrenching suspense. it's just phenomenal the amount of tension the movie pulls for so long.

The main frustration people have over child trafficking is 1) we feel not enough investigation happen or are treated seriously and 2) victims / accusers are too easily ignored and called conspiracy theorists, grifters, people with false memories. We know nobles have practiced blood sacrifices with children. Gilles de Rais famously murderer 200 hundred children in blood rituals after torturing them to gain more life. I really don't understand why we care people call it adrenochrome and try and label it a drug to make sense of it. Not everyone is intelligent, and it's difficult to explain horrifically traumatic things. Their position is that this is would be horrible thing to do to children, but the vitriol of the backlash is as if they were pro adrenochrome.

My grandfather's favorite books series is Jack Reacher and he hates the movies b/c Tom Cruise messes with his head canon. Meanwhile I appreciate having a great actor vs just a big guy. Pops is 91 and has no clue about the modern world or politics, so it just goes to show messing with canon can piss anyone off.

Had a final thought on this. So what is enough to make someone be labelled Qanon? At an academic level disbelieving any part of the above means you do not believe in Qanon. For a statement to be true all it's propositions must be true. This is how fact checkers operate. It is unfair to apply fact checking standards to everyone else, but not to media. Now it is true that fact checking can be seen as pedantic, so we could say the leading proposition of Qanon is that a govt official was making anonymous promises. I would definitely say that someone has to believe this part to be called a Qanono believer. But maintain since the media uses fact checkers, their headlines should be held to the standard of fact checking which is all propositions must be true for the statement to be true. It's good to be mindful of how media plays with language like this.

Yet everyone thinks of fathers as being abusive so much that family court slightly favors mothers. What accounts for such a large discrepancy in perception?
