So, the chick flick was number one this weekend. Ha. Not my type of film, I will be honest, but again glad to see that a movie that is geared towards females is tops at the BO again.

It s weird how the R Rating has become a " bad thing" for blockbusters.
Terminator 2 was Rated R and sold 50m tickets some 24 odd years ago.
Depends on the content in that R rating. If it's violence, cursing and maybe one or two butt shots, nobody will think nothing of it as long as the movie is good. But, if the movie is nothing more than tits and ass, you run the risk of shutting out a potential audience with the female viewers (which make up 70% of the box office these days). Only way that can work is if the nudity is equal between the males and females (like in Fifty Shades of Grey or Magic Mike)

I loved AOU.
I wasn't disappointed because I had no expectations either since I didn't watch any of the promo stuff trailers included. It was different from the first, that's for sure.
I didn't watch anything either. I just didn't like it because it seemed like a rehash of the first movie, the Natasha/Banner thing did not work, a certain death felt very forced, the villains sucked, the CGI looked off and not as good as the first time around.

F7 wins.
Good! Marvel deserves the backlash after all of the BS that happened in AOU. Such a disappointing movie. Now I see why some studios keep their directors on a short leash.

Yeah but everybody's hair...
HA! I think Daniel had his best and most accurate portrayal of Harry Potter's hair in that movie.
-
Maybe, maybe not. Maybe with him controlling something, the eyes don't change. Perhaps it was just an effect from Loki. And also to note, it sounds like a good hour has been cut from this movie, 15 to 20 minutes of it probably critical in telling a coherent story. I for one think there were major cuts toWouldn't we have seen the eyes change?
Thor's little adventure. I mean, one minute he flies away, then goes to see Eric, and then, he's taking a bath in some random lake, then gets a vision. I don't know anything about Norse Gods and mythology,
so this whole thing had me WTF?

There are some of us who are fortunate enough to have completely avoided Potter.
That's just sad. I knew I wouldn't care for it, but I at least gave Citizen Kane and Twilight a shot. And Hunger Games. At least 1 out of those 3 interested me.

Movie Draco > Book Draco
They REALLY expanded upon his character.
So, the big question, in Deathly Hallows part one, did Draco know he was looking at Harry and lied about it, or did he really not know?
And I'm 50/50 on Draco book vs Draco movie. I would have loved more fist fights in the movie between him and Ron, because they were hilarious in the books. And they cut out a major scene with Hermione in GOF. In HBP, I would have loved if the Harry vs Draco fight happened just liked the book, with Harry stumbling in on Draco crying in front of Myrtle, and then Myrtle yelling out MURDERER, MURDERER!

Superbowl of the football world? I thought Superbowl was football?
How about how The Grand National is to steeplechasing and The World Cup is to soccer.
-
The snogging wasn't that much, but HBP works really well when watching the next two right after.
And the Draco scenes where he looked for the vanishing cabinet, cried when the bird died, etc came from the script, and not the book.
It seems to me more than half the middle part of the movie was nothing but snogging with Ron and Lavendar, and I was seriously disappointed with how they handled Draco in the movie compared to the book.

Also look at the times of each event:
Derby - Afternoon
NBA Playoffs - Evening
NFL Draft - Afternoon and evening
May Vs Manny - Late Night
I mean Sports locked up Saturday pretty much all day. Not shocked by the Westcoast stories I'm hearing.
Heck, I heard that celebrities attending the Kentucky Derby had jets on standby ready to leave once the race was over, to take them to the fight.
-
I know the fight was big, but people are bringing up all sorts of football games and horse racing???
The Kentucky Derby is pretty much the Superbowl of the football world or Daytona 500 of the Nascar world. Everyone around the world has heard about it, say more than the Breeders Cup Classic or the other two legs of the triple crown.

Plenty of members here consider HBP one of the best even though a lot of them were mixed on it in the beginning. It's a film that grows on you.
I think it's the whole "snogging" part that turned me off. My favorite part would definitely be anything that Draco was in, since he is actually my second favorite character in the franchise. He's just such a shit, and he doesn't even care to hide it!

Everyone thinks she is beautiful. You are alone on that ridiculous opinion over here.
Oh, I don't think so. All I know, my favorite actress for the role was Charlize Theron (who is fucking gorgeous) and runner up, Jamie Alexander, and well, we know how that turned out.

Let me explain. BOM members will remember me being hugely excited for IM2, and I was crushed when it didn't do nearly as well as it should. I even saw IM2 three times in theaters.
I love IM1. IM2 lulls a bit but I think it's pretty underrated. I also think Thor is very charming. But it's when Phase 2 happened that my appreciation for Marvel plummeted.
I thought CA1 was eh. Iron Man 3 was decent, but nothing great. The Avengers was completely and utterly mediocre. Guardians of the Galaxy is also wildly overrated. Chris Pine's charisma and dorky charm saves it. But they all feel so fucking similar despite having different characters and worlds. Like a checklist to make sure every character has a funny moment. It all became so superficial. None of them are bad films, but each one is inundated by so much mediocrity.
TWS was fantastic, though.
BO means shit to me when I judge a film. DH1 is my favorite Potter film ever, but I never complained that Eclipse beat it domestically because it's the only Twilight film I liked.
I'll probably see AOU soon. And even if it had dethroned Potter, it wouldn't dampen the film for me.
Thanks.
My fave Harry Potter is still POA. Most of the them are great, but I was a bit disappointed with Half Blood Prince, because the book itself was so good.

There are sporting events on all the time yet they are seldom mentioned in box office.
And there are tons of movies released every year, but very few manage to find themselves on the front page of the NYT.
-
She might be a terrible actress, but UGLY?! BWAHAHAHAHHAHAA
Wha, you think THAT is pretty? Wow.

Disney is having a good spell, just not as good as other studios, haven't finished on top for a decade, simple as.
But bigger question is, how much are they raking in from their theme parks and merchadise that now span not only Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Frozen, but Marvel and Star Wars too. Anything the BO makes for them is probably pocket change to them.

It won't be long until movies just open on Thursday.
Weren't several movies like Transformers actually opened on Wednesdays?

I completely buy the Spurs being a major cause for a drop in that area, and I buy the boxing match hitting WC shows. But does the Kentucky derby register as a must watch event for people? Just curious.
People like to bet on horse racing. I know for a fact they clog up the near dog track and betting bars to place wages on the longshot.
-
2 old boxers, an old Spurs team, an injured Clippers team, and a bunch of horses took down the mighty Avengers!
I wonder if one of those horses was Loki's son?
-
BVS will open to ~$150m
No where near $200m though. I'm hyped for it (because of Wonder Woman) but there's too much bad buzz and Zacks movies aren't always loved.
I was hyped for Wonder Woman, until I seen the actress they chose. She's horrible and ugly.
-
Actuals will increase. Mark my words.
I'm thinking $190m actuals.
So, I want to ask you, and be honest, please. You seemed to hate the AOU, but that hate seems to stem from the fact that it looked like it was going to dethrone Potter's place in the box office. Since that didn't happen, are you feeling more warmed up to AOU and the MCU as movies, or do you still kind of not like them?

Does Thanos care about the Avengers? Isn't more about getting the stones? Thanos didn't create Ultron.
I was given the impression with the
ending credit that Thanos had something to do with Ultron. Regardless, Thanos did indeed give Loki the sceptor, and it is still on Earth, and we already know the sceptor can manipulate people and even Gods, so whose to say that Thanos was manipulating both Tony and Bruce, both highly intelligent humans, into making something that he can control or use to spy on the Avengers with? Perhaps he himself got a vision of them being a major threat to him in his plans, which is why he is trying to get rid of them now before they get too powerful, but he keeps underestimating that power.

The ending of American Sniper is one of my favorties of all movies. The impact it had was unbelievable.
