  1. Warner Bros killing it in August with CRA & Meg likely combining for 300-350 in US when all is said and done.

After this hold, looks like Fallout will catch MI2 for top spot in the franchise ... well earned.

Happytime Murders was something that intrigued me on the first trailer, but something I'd never go to see in theaters because the joke would get old really quick, and I'm not usually a big fan of McCarthy anyway.  I see most people shared the indifference by not checking it out.

Today I used my A List pass to see BlacKkKlansman which was a fantastic film, one of my favorites of the year so far ... and nice to see it's still holding solid in its 3rd week.

  2. It's a great deal ... I got my AMC A List at the beginning of July and used it to see Sicario 2, Incredibles 2, Ant Man & the Wasp & Mission: Impossible Fallout (2 times)

... tickets are only $7 now, as they kind of overpriced the market for years despite somewhat pedestrian theater standards/quality when it was Carmike (charging 11+ and 15 for Thursday night premieres), but essentially I got 35+ worth of tickets for $20, plus I save money at concessions in free beverage upgrades, no online fees, etc ... while building up for rewards.

I'd like to use it even more, but I get busy and can't always get to the theater.

I’m comparing domestic as it stands.

The international number there’s no defending. US audiences took a while to come out for Beasts, but overseas most of the Potter brigade were there.

The other thing is Fantastic Beasts second weekend was Thanksgiving which helped aide things ... and didn't really have anything run into it until Rogue One.

are we really writing off the chance of this film having legs once word gets out?

Do we really believe that people won’t go back to work next week and recommend it to others who didn’t go but saw the last three?

I’m really looking forward to seeing how this plays the next couple of weeks. It’s all a bit Fantastic Beasts at the moment. I remember all the gloom and doom when that opening weekend came in.

Fantastic Beasts didn't open to 65 million overseas ... even if Solo legs it out to a 230 or so finish in the US, it's not even a guarantee to beat out fucking Rampage worldwide.

Horrendous result for Disney, but I think they'll survive Solo & Wrinkle in Time. :P

Because if they use a Star Wars comp they're looking at under $90M for the 3-day which would be horrendous

It's the first major Star Wars movie I haven't been to opening night since Attack of the Clones. LOL

Nobody was dying for this film and if their next solution is Boba Fett, it's going to be an even bigger disaster.

  6. Deathly Hallows 2 Midnight was one of the 2 best 'midnight' showings I've ever attended ... was showing on 5 screens, which I'd never seen before at my theater.  Usually if you had more than 1 at that time of night it was a shock.  Crowd went wild for everything.

... also, The Dark Knight was just ridiculous at the time.

I know why they don't do the midnight thing anymore, but the feeling is a bit different at a 7pm/8pm showing.

Regarding IW, seems we have a typical enormous day/weekend, but expectations may have gotten the best of some people.  I saw the film last night and really enjoyed it. :)

    Positive:

    THR

    Guardian (3/5)

    Telegraph

    Empire (3/5)

    Negative:

    Variety

    EW (“disaster”)

The EW review was bad (C-) ... hilarious thing is that the reviewer was talking up all his recent bad choices/movies ... including Jumanji and talking about how his goodwill might run out if continues.  It's like WHAT ... a movie that only opened to like 40 million & ended up making 400+ in the US and nearly a billion worldwide  might help hurt his goodwill. LOL

Either way, can't say the movie excites me very much though.

  8. Yeah, I only watched the teaser to see at least a GLIMPSE of Venom since they've shown nothing.   I'm not that hyped for the film to begin with because ... well, it's a Venom movie, but Sony didn't even give me any reason to get excited.

Sorry, just don't know what they expect to achieve with this when it is seen at Black Panther.  Tom Hardy isn't some insanely huge draw that you can just not promote the character and sell the movie.

Didn't TLJ have a very similar percentage drop from TFA as TESB had from SW?

Not really, because Star Wars was re-released several times before Empire Strikes Back came out.

I think I read on here that the difference was actually closer to say 10% less for ESB ... like low 200's vs. somewhere around 180's for Empire.

I'm sure someone has the exact #s, but far less than the 33% drop of TLJ.

  10. 45+ would be a great start.  Definitely felt much more quiet at my theater than 2 years ago.  Actually, it was pretty much night and day crowd wise, which makes 45 seem so good.

The movie itself ... well, I certainly side closer to @Christmas baumer than some of the other reactions.  Didn't hate it at all, but man I left feeling underwhelmed considering the reviews and reaction from critics.   Think I liked TFA better.

The trailer debuted on the live stream and have to say the CGI looks amazing. They do seem to playing up the real world is crap aspect. Can't believe WB allowed them to reference a Marvel character and not a DC one.

    Here's the trailer:

Looks fun, enjoyed it more than the teaser.

... and I think the reason they were referencing Marvel (Peter Parker & Bruce Banner) is that his name is Wade Watts and no real DC characters with that type of alliteration.

Funny enough the combined domestic total of DC this year will probably be in line with most people's expectations. Just that the Wonder Woman and Justice League totals were swapped around.

The message is do solo films with talented directors that can appeal to everyone, not just the hardcore DC fanatics who look for every comic book panel & easter egg (like me) :P

... should have been obvious from the start, but I'm not a corporate CEO. :)

The score was far higher on the opening day.

I thought someone posted a few pages ago that it was 74 on opening day or weekend.

Oh well ... we'll see, I figure it will be closer to Man of Steel flixster score in mid 70's then the SS & BvS low 60's score.

... but yeah, they always go down, Wonder Woman went down to 89 after being in the low 90's when it came out.  Thor was really consistent around 89-90.
