@SteveJaros is either the biggest troll on this site or he just doesnt understand how box office works. I'm going with the first one. I believe he is a troll because even the most basic rudimentary kindergarten level of understanding of box office and you would know that Star Wars will get past 900 million.
I think TFA's run has brought a number of trolls on board (just as I'm sure Avatar's run back in the day).

So many posts confused and worried about the 19.8m figure.
They realise it will might not make $1b, this worries them because without $1.2b Dom it won't beat Avatar's 2.8b
No one thinks TFA is beating Avatar worldwide.

Its come to a point that most people who wanted to see it in America have already seen it considering its at 630 Million and now its all repeat viewings
Come one that's just flat out dumb. You aren't getting anywhere near these numbers with repeat viewings.

American Sniper? That doesn't seem right. It wasn't in wide release for its first 3 week-ends
Avatar owns the 3rd through 7th weekend records (well third weekend record it will own until Sunday). After that it is Titanic.

Ed can you do that same calculation w/ ROTK?
ROTK doesn't work well for daily comparisons since New Years Day fell on Thursday that year.

So if it does 31M.4 today...
Mon: 31M
Tues: 27M (-11%)
Weds: 25M (-5%)
Thurs: 18M (-25%)
Friday: 30M (+70%)
Saturday: 31M (+5%)
Sunday: 18M (-40%)
I see a 79M weekend here. What am I doing wrong?
Those weekday drops would be way higher than basically anything dropped in 2009. And do you really expect its Friday and Saturday to be lower than yesterday?

Wow, this has a potential of making $900 million+ domestically.
That is a lock. The only question at this point is whether it will cross a billion domestically.

What Disney movies are coming out the first 4 months of the year? You gotta believe that Disney will push this to $1B if it's within 20-30M. They're saving all their fudge points for the end!
The Finest Hours comes out at the end of January and Zootopia at the beginning of March. The Jungle Book comes out in April but by then Star Wars won't be making any money.

Work, school starting again>weather on how it affects drops.
That isn't really how it played out in 2009 though when the dates lined up exactly how they did this year. Two movies in the top 10 increased on this coming weekend, 4 movies (including Avatar dropped by less than 10%), another movie dropped by only 15%, Alvin and the Chipmunks in its 2nd weekend of release dropped 28% and Sherlock Holmes also in its second weekend of release was the only movie in the top 10 to drop over 30%.

It's doable but highly unlikely.
Star Wars is operating with much bigger numbers so it is harder to look at past weekends for guidance but only Sherlock Holmes dropped above 33% on the same weekend back in 2009 and that was in its second weekend of release rather than 3rd.

Watch all three prequels. Go in with an open mind. There is a lot of excellent stuff in there.
Agree. None of the movies totally work for various reasons but there is some redeeming parts in all three. I know most people focus on Jar Jar as a big negative (and he is) I still maintain by far and away the worst part of the prequel trilogy is the love story between Anakin and Padme. The dialogue in basically every scene between the two is horrid and there is zero chemistry there.

I doubt it.
If Avatar could get a nom this certainly has a chance considering its a better film and was better received by critics.

And there you go. Not surprising at all that THR number was way off.

People should at least wait for more legitimate numbers before starting with the doom and gloom. Do people not remember Saturday when TFA number went up over $10 mil from early estimates?

Yea there's a slight chance it could pass Avatanic
I was thinking TFA vs. Jurassic World + AOU since those movies both came out this year and are top 10 all time in unadjusted box office would be a fun club.

Oh, and btw...SWTFA is now the third highest grossing film of the year domestically.
It has also outgrossed every movie released in 2014.

So the highest non-opening Thursday is $29,094,472 by Transformers 2. That seems completely out of reach as it would if require a sub 25% drop but the impossible may be possible for this movie at this point.

Wait...so how is this not a record?
Like...just...whatA lot of movies have opened on Wednesdays so there are a handful of Wednesdays bigger than TFA's Wednesday. However, this is by far and away the biggest non-opening Wednesday in history.

Well, colour me a little hesitant calling a weekend with an Avatar like multiplier. This has to slow down eventually....it can't keep this pace up. Seriously, this is nuts.
Agreed. It just isn't possible for this to continue to perform like Avatar long term because it is just going through so much demand. I'm just hoping that its bigger drops come post January 3.

This Thursday being Christmas Eve, yet it still has a shot at none opening record. Right?
It's possible but it will be tough. Transformers 2 made $29,094,472 on its second day of release so it will have to top that. Certainly possible with how it has held this week but that is a pretty high bar.

SDaw JW 6X in theater...loved it and many others did too.
Avatar was very good, but not as good as other Cameron films imo
TFA might one day be ranked higher than Empire in my eyes.
It's fine if people don't like certain movies and express those opinions. Doesn't mean they are trolling...HOWEVER...to come in here and say that SW isn't really good it's just all hype, well, that's borderline idiocy. SW has been around for 40 years, the love is real and the box office is proving it.
It is trolling when literally every single one of your posts is ripping a movie.

That is your opinion, the thing is TA had a whole universe it elevated into peoples mind so that makes it different from JW.
JW did not really set up a sequel really.
Well they tried to set up the laughably stupid idea of weaponizing dinosaurs. That entire plot point of the movie was unfathomably stupid to the point it almost ruined that entire movie for me.

Not really. Even though the movie has massive flaws, it was guaranteed to be big just because it follows Episode 6. Without the Star Wars name though, people would recognize it for the garbage that it is.
I'm surprised this board puts up with this kind of garbage poster who is clearly a troll that only posts on one subject.

Eh, it isn't breaking any records today and it isn't beating Avatar today. I don't think that tweet means anything.
