To WB's credit though, props for keeping Steppenwolf Born to Be CG out of the marketing as much as possible. He could have shaved another 20m off the OW if prominently featured.

It's pretty early to already be saying TR dropped 64% this weekend. Deadline's math seems pretty wonky since it already had a better jump than DS's 3rd Friday. The low end of their Friday range gives it 22m if it follows DS and the high end gives it 24.5. So not sure where -64% is coming from.

Really hoping since JL opened so low it doesn't manage to beat TR's multi or you just know we'll be hearing from some about how much better JL's WOM was. Nevermind the OW differences.

That remains to be seen since those characters/actors have not had real interactions with each other yet. As far as their popularity with audiences, it's honestly a stronger lineup overall in that sense than the original was, even if none are quite on an Iron Man level.

I mean kind of, but not really. Sure the phase 1 crop of characters are being greatly minimized, but there are plenty of big characters that will still be at the forefront (Spidey, Guardians, Strange, Black Panther, etc).

The team involved screams style over substance to me, which is pretty much the Snyder formula that has failed DCEU so badly. I don't know about Momoa's ability to headline a tentpole and portray a character with much of any depth either.

It will only do more if reception is on an FC/DOFP level. Otherwise 100 sounds about right.

I guess the likes of Gollum and Koba were "generic villains" if CGI is the sole criteria for that.

The whole infinity stones narrative has revolved around teasing his entrance. Not sure how much more they could build him up without actually having him in the films.

Well Feige has already said this about IW: "in a movie that has a lot of characters, you could almost go so far as to say he is the main character, and that’s a bit of a departure from what we've done before [with other villains], but that was appropriate for" this film

I'll believe that Feige and co are gonna fuck up the trump card they've been building towards for nearly a decade when I see it.

CGI shouldn't automatically mean generic villain. Thanos should be far more than your typical CGI CBM villain if he's done well at all. He already has 6+ years of buildup within the franchise going in his favor. What other villain has ever had that in a franchise?

A Thor movie is flying past 300 with BP all but locked to be another all around triumph for MCU. In other words, the MCU couldn't possibly be in any healthier of a condition going into IW. There's no argument that will possibly convince me IW can miss 400 DOM. I still don't think it can do worse than Ultron outside of similar reception.

If JL doesn't clear 250, Ant Man and the Wasp is the only MCU release currently on the schedule that could have trouble with that mark.
