    23m would be disappointing for Coco. Worse second weekend hold than Moana, on par with Tangled. Tangled got a 2.94x multi from its 5 day.

    DEAR.GOD. I was at Chick Fil A earlier today, and there was an older couple in line behind me who were talking about movies and the guy said he didn't want to take their grandkids (I assume) to see Coco, it "glorifies immigration." It took everything in me to not turn around and actually tell him he was an idiot. God I hate the ignorance in this country these days with the orange one in power.

    Not saying it's comedic gold (although pretty much all of Hemsworth's and most of McKinnon's stuff is), but it was enjoyable and this decade has a pretty weak offering of comedies.

    Ghostbusters is one of the better comedies of this decade. Tragic most of the core franchise fanbase made up their minds what they thought of it long before ever seeing it or giving it any kind of chance.

    There's a reason to be bothered that a WDAS based TV holiday special is sitting in place of the traditional Pixar short in the first place. That is part of what Pixar has built their brand around for two decades, and I can guarantee there are many out there who expect and even look forward to that from them when they go to a Pixar film. Not 20 minutes of pandering to a niche audience.

    I agree honestly. The trailers have delivered on silly comedy, and it looks like a fun time. This is going to break out for sure from the mild expectations.

    Yeah, to be fair no one could have predicted that 2.2x multi once the glowing reviews came in. It makes sense why we were all so off with the totals since we were probably all expecting 170+ on OW after the tracking that last week.

    I'd put money on virtually every other CBM on the schedule being rotten before I would IW. They aren't gonna fuck up that bad after a decade of meticulous planning to get to these films.

    Ay, glad to find a fellow summer '01 box office fan. That's when I first got into box office so it holds a certain nostalgia for me. Especially tracking JP3's and The Mummy Return's run. Pretty hilarious now to know how weak those two are in the history of big box office runs, but at the time it seemed very impressive to 11 year old me. EDIT: Woah, looks like Mummy Returns was the second biggest OW ever at the time. No wonder it seemed like a big deal. Insane to think that in 16 years its went from #2 to #113.

    What the actual fuck? I have no memory of ever thinking Civil War would get anywhere near that. I could swear I thought 400ish for several months prior. No idea what I was drinking the day I made that prediction.

    At least 6 deaths would "mysteriously" occur over in the MCU creative department if that happens.

    I'm not saying the team up aspect (mainly Iron Man) didn't inflate the gross at all, just like Hulk definitely inflated Ragnarok. I'm saying it's not the same as an Avengers film. The potential appeal and ceiling were never that high as they are for an Avengers film because it wasn't. I fail to see the reasoning for IW doing worse than both Cap 3 and Guardians 2.

    Ragnarok is set to have an almost identical gross increase from The Dark World as Civil War did from Winter Soldier (+55-57%). CW was not the same appeal as an Avengers film just because of its increase anymore than Ragnarok is.
