  1. Yeah, no way Disney's letting that happen. You can't see how even you might be on my side of this argument ten years from now? As for the books/games, please don't pretend they reach anywhere near the pop culture phenomenon levels or audience of the films. We all know that's not true. As for how something in geek culture could be trending on the internet? It's the internet!
  2. Quite frankly, @Grand Moff Tele I'm shocked that you're not on my side about Disney's SW model. You're the one more than any poster who is always complaining about the next spin-off/prequel/sequel/extended universe. But I guess that only applies when it's franchises you don't like?
  3. The films were special to a lot of us, not the books/games. By over-saturating us with SW films, they eventually will become the very thing the books have been for years: niche appealing and only meant to serve a very small audience. It doesn't matter how good the films are, after 10 in less than 10 years, a gigantic chunk of the SW audience is going to lose interest. And I for one think it's sad that it's only a matter of years now before the royal monarch of all film franchises will abdicate its throne.
  4. I really don't know how to describe to you the concept that Star Wars is/was such a special franchise for some of us. You can argue in the defense of the Anthology films all you want, but in 7 years from now when we're on our 10th SW film in less than a decade everyone will be complaining about this. See I'm not crazy, I'm just ahead of the curve. Bookmark it. Quote me. Btw, the books/games tend to do far more creative and original stories than R1 for the record. If R1 had been something totally new in the Star Wars EU, I would have shut up about the cash grab aspect. But it wasn't. And you know why? Disney's not comfortable taking that risk, because these Anthology films are cash grabs.
  5. You probably won't see this, but for what it's worth that hasn't been at all what I've been saying. I'm expressing my issues with the film in a very valid manner. Anyone is free to put me on ignore, but don't pretend I'm going on a raging incoherent rampage because you don't like my opinions.
  6. Um, the medium of course! Films, books, and games are vastly different from each other. For starters, films are far more subject to diminishing returns for franchises than those other mediums are. You can have thousands of comic books of a story, but try doing that in film and it won't take long to overstay the welcome. That's why Bond has gone through so many ups and downs as a film franchise. But at least with that they are continuing the main story, not going into a bunch of subplot spin offs. Also, I'm far from the only one who thinks Star Wars was the most "special" cinematic franchise out there. These anthology films will ruin that and Star Wars will be the MCU before we know it. Some films good, some films bad, some films huge, some films just mild successes. No films truly special or events anymore.
  7. While you are right my initial reaction to R1's announcement was a very negative one, it was for multiple reasons. Of course I loathed Godzilla, so there was that trepidation with Edwards. I hated the idea of Disney milking Star Wars dry with unnecessary "anthology" films, and I always thought this story absolutely was not one that needed to be told. I can sum up the movie's plot in one sentence that EVERYONE who watched the OT would already know. I mean it's great that some people loved R1, but at least admit how utterly void of necessity this film was. It was an absolute footnote of a subplot that you knew everything about already! If that doesn't scream cash grab on the studio's part, what does? All that aside, I was actually hyped for this after TFA last year because I was on such a Star Wars high and I was willing to give it a chance. Then the marketing hit. MEH. Then the reports of Disney being unhappy with the film and reshoots. Uh-oh, The Edwards Strikes Back just as I feared. Finally, when reviews were much better than I admittedly anticipated and BoxOfficeZ chimed in with a rave, I decided to go in with an open mind. Nope, every fear I had was realized and then some. I mean I for one never expected the sheer boredom to be such an issue here. Even that caught me off guard. I figured, "hey it's still Star Wars", gotta be some entertainment in there right in spite of Edwards? Nope. Not for me.
  8. Lol, is SteveJaros serious about that sub 300m remark? Come now, we must live in reality, hard as it may be when Edwards inhabits it.
  9. ROTS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>R1 The highs of TPM>>>>>>>>R1 AOTC > R1 (just barely though, only because it doesn't make me want to fall asleep for two hours of its runtime)
  10. Damn, the 20% Moana hold was nice while it lasted. 30-35% is still great though.
  11. Well with The Big Short last year, La La Land this year, and Blade Runner he seems to finally be adding some well known films to his resume beyond the Notebook.
  12. Not strong kid appeal. The big blockbuster openings that increase from Friday proper have massive kid appeal. Still think word will spread quickly this isn't for kids, so a drop from Friday proper could happen.
  13. It held the very prestigious title of IMDB's #1 bottom film for years and years. Sadly I see it's lost that honor today. Shawshank, watch out!
  14. Gosling is an odd one. He somehow seems to maintain the illusion of A lister despite being known among the GA for literally just one role in the last decade+.
  15. Porthos meant if the percentage drops were the same (i.e. not true friday to sat).
  16. Well...that is similar to DH2's true friday to saturday drop, and plenty of blockbusters have dropped 30% on their first Sunday.
