Anyways, looks like this weekend may very well beat last weekend's record. I am legit shocked at how well all of the openers are doing, Daddy's Home has a legitimate chance at 200m with that OW this time of year. I knew it was a likely 100m bet, but never expected 200 could be in play. I also have to wonder if TFA would have indeed followed Avatar's holds and done more like 180+ if not for the 5 openers doing so much business. That had to hurt it at least a little. This really is like Christmas season 2009 on steroids, and I remember back during then thinking I may never see the box office like that again. Wrong!

Totally sounds like my Dad. I could never get him to watch the prequels with me for the life of me back when I was a kid, but he wanted to see this! He was just a very casual fan of the OT back in the day and hasn't seen them in years, but still wanted to check this one out. I was quite shocked. He also like it, and he typically doesn't go for the blockbuster types.

Our WW predictions so far have kinda been a disaster on the whole...

So another bonafide comedy hit for Ferrell. Guy is a true box office machine in these kinds of roles.

Shrek 2 only made 700k more than SM1's second weekend 2 years later. SM1 should definitely win out.

However you slice it, it's beating TDK for sure by its second weekend. That is just insane.

If SM1 held its second weekend attendance record for nearly 14 years, TFA may never let go of this record in terms of attendance.

Right now Kal is working hard on a way to wire all box office receipts for TFA to Avatar's gross starting Monday. That is why we haven't heard from him.

I remember CS being moderately useful for legs back in like the '06-'08 days, but it for sure hasn't been relevant this decade.

I will say the openers are doing waaaay better than I expected considering the juggernaut TFA still is. I for sure didn't see the 5 of them being able to pull 70m+ combined like it looks like they will from those Friday numbers.

Yeah, even I can't see 75 Sat with just a 50 Fri, and I'm usually too overzealous with my predicts for it as it is. Would love to be wrong though.

It needed to drop like 50% this weekend for a billion to start seeming unlikely. It is definitely still on course.

We were talking about it because it had Avatar's hold the entire week on its weekdays, even better in a couple cases. When it didn't at least start falling behind on Wednesday and Thursday, many of us rightfully wondered if it could keep that up over the weekend too. It doesn't look like it, but 51 gives it a +85% increase which is still incredible.

This movie seems impossible to predict on a daily basis, but with the range rth just gave us, 160 certainly isn't off the table yet.
