The same also goes for all the people though who will sit there and tell you today that Avatar's run was all hype. You can't get a 10x multi in this century without a lot of people loving it when they first saw it at least.
Perhaps not, but often we can figure out what will stand the test of time in terms of memorable shots or scenes. I can't see those scenes in TA or JW not becoming iconic of the blockbusters of this era.
Well technically "iconic" just means its representative or a symbol of something. It certainly doesn't mean the same thing as "beloved." Most people know those shots from JW, they stand out in their minds immediately as soon as you mention the movie. They are iconic shots.
Chris Pratt's Raptor pen, arms out scene is pretty much on the same level as TA's circle shot for modern iconic scenes. Same with the Raptors running by the motorcycle and the giant water dino eating the flying one. For better or for worse, the movie is memorable.
I may actually still prefer Avatar to TFA. Haven't decided yet. I know I prefer Avatar's world building and immersion to almost any other movie.
Hell no to JW though.
Not a fair comparison though, it was still the 90's blockbusters almost always had decent legs. Even Godzilla '98 cleared 3x! And critics were lukewarm for the most part.
Christmas is probably the only time it could do this well. This is always the best time of year for legs. Obviously most people are loving it. Even if it is just ANH 2 (disagree), that's what half the fanbase was asking for anyways.
TFA officially top ten on Gold Derby for BP!!!
It is definitely getting nominated. It will be the new DOM record holder before voting closes, and I see no way they ignore that combined with its impeccable reviews. I truly believe The Martian is in more danger of missing out now than TFA. Who is going to vote for that as their favorite over TFA? The nostalgia alone will just be too strong in the Academy.
