  1. Hope it comes here. Cotillard is good even when she has nothing roles (i.e. TDKR).
  2. Can't wait to see it. Want to take my little nephews but may have to just end up going myself.
  3. Ok, what about record for live action? Lone Survivor's 37m is the highest I can find, followed by Blair Witch Project's 29m.
  4. Honestly I'm surprised AS' massive success didn't lead to Blackhat being a mini breakout too since they're targeting similar audiences and AS's unexpected sellouts would've caused spillover for it you'd think. But I guess the popular alternative choices are Wedding Ringer and Paddington instead, lol.
  5. What is the record for wide OW of a movie that started out as a limited release? Frozen?
  6. I better see some fucking transcendent box office performances from the actual heavy hitters this year if AS can do all this.
  7. It took a huge bible story and actually targeted it towards Christians. Opposed to Noah and Exodus, which took huge bible stories and tried to target Christians as little as possible.
  8. Whenever there's something that's as innovative and groundbreaking to the genre as Snow White was for its time and Toy Story was for its time. Animation's prestige in the industry has grown immensely in the last two decades, so I think a groudbreaking and universally acclaimed film like TS1 would have a serious shot if released now. Although it would still have to probably be lucky enough to release in a weak year. It very well may never happen. Also I don't think a sequel can ever do it if one finally does win. Sequels already have uphill battles with the Academy as it is.
  9. Holy fuckballs, you're right. Totally spaced that it will be counted for last year. Though I don't think it can go as high as 340 with that big of an opening unless the WOM is out of this world. There has to be some level of typical blockbuster frontloaded-ness involved here with an OW like that.
  10. A 300m mega blockbuster in January is going to make Hollywood completely re-evaluate the month. Expect major tentpoles to start releasing in Jan by January 2017. How's that?
  11. If AS clears 100m for the 4 day it's time to start talking about the real possibilities of 300m DOM. Jesus.
  12. Well that seems like much more tempered estimates than what we had originally.
  13. Definitely agree with that. The lack of help re-adjusting gives an overall sense that they've merely been "used" and then dispensed of.
  14. All I know is if Mortdecai opens north of 30m then there is some freaky witchcraft voodoo going on at the box office right now to ensure massive success to all.
  15. Who knows I guess. Eastwood's name would have certainly allotted more money to the marketing campaign. I doubt that would have flipped the film's successes though so that Selma would have been in contention to make 300m and AS only 60m or so. The Butler is the only modern instance I can think of where a movie dealing with African American rights was able to hit 100 at the box office without a main white protagonist like Lincoln and The Help had.
  16. And I'd like to point out DuVernay doesn't gloss over his imperfections as a man in the film. She doesn't make him out to be some sparkling clean god-like deity that deserves worship or something.
