  1. Looks like I also need to see Inherent Vice with all this Phoenix raving here.
  2. Out of the nominees? Yes. Not of the year though. That would be Oyelowo followed by Gyllenhaal followed by Fiennes. Then Keaton, although I'm tempted to say I preferred Teller in Whiplash as well.
  3. Wow, AS actually not acting like a phenomenon for one day. Maybe a bigger drop than we think this weekend? It is SB weekend.
  4. I remember the BOM weekend report for KFP2 highlighting that the female audience just didn't show up even though they did for KFP1. So apparently girls were not big fans of KFP1 and therefore KFP2 was of little interest to them. The female demo tends to be the most important of all for box office success.
  5. I didn't like it at all and can't believe Miller was nominated, but I better shut up on the subject. I'm not allowed to call anything "undeserving." It's apparently against the rules on a discussion based message board.
  6. Haven't done that. But by all means, please keep exaggerating.
  7. And look at all the people that whined and whined (and still whine) about AiW's box office. Again, I'm allowed to complain about a movie getting massive success that is dumbfounding to me. Same as anyone else. Where exactly have I acted like it's costing me something? The facts are that its gross will be among a group of movies where it entirely doesn't fit, which makes me question exactly why it's there. Again, the success is dumbfounding to me. Doesn't mean it's hurting me on a personal level, but I am going to continue to question it. It's a giant box office "what the fuck?" The biggest ever since I've tracked BO. Passion could be easily explained by the Christians flocking to it, and even Alice could be explained as a $200m+ Disney Johnny Depp blockbuster that always had blockbuster prospects in sight. AS is an enigma. I have no idea why so many people are seeing it, and I'm expressing my shock/confusion.
  8. If China is big enough it will be the first $3 billion grossing trilogy ever. Then I will forevermore be bringing that fact up.
  9. A special drink Ringo used to make for Paul? Beetlejuice however is a movie.
  10. Eclipse and Breaking Dawn 1 and 2 are the only 3 in the top 100 DOM grossers I haven't seen (at least not all the way through). Excluding the Twilight franchise, then it would be Beverly Hills Cop. Several in the top 50 on the all time adjusted list I haven't seen though.
  11. It's a fine film (albeit with many flaws as both a movie and a "factual" biopic), but to suggest that everyone should be happy for a movie's massive box office performance is silly. No everyone does not have to be happy about it. This may as well be an echo chamber if that were the case.
  12. So if Oogieloves had been a 600m DOM grossing film, we should have all been celebrating?
  13. Fun fact: Avatar will be less than 10m ahead of it through the same point after this weekend. Now of course Avatar was still in the midst of the Holiday season at this point, and I'm not suggesting it could ever take a shot at that. But It can take a shot at 500 (4.3x multi off its 2nd weekend), and 600 if it were to win big at the Oscars. Let's hope the legs die down though and this second weekend is not indicative of what's to come. Though second weekend drops for a big OW should be one of the harshest.
  14. It will take a shot at #2 DOM of all time if it wins BP. I'm dead serious (though I wish I wasn't). The Academy better fucking not.
  15. It had a sub 25% drop off a 90m Holiday weekend OW! There's no way it can miss 400 now, and 425 is more than managable. Only needs like a 3.2x multi off of this weekend to get there. If it did actually win BP, I shudder to think of just how high it would go.
  16. It had a blockbuster opening and is now having the holds of a mid level opening WOM sensation. The last movie we saw do something like that was Avatar.
  17. It can have that, I really don't care. If it starts impeding on TDK though, I swear... And that's not even an unrealistic possibility at this point either.
  18. I can't believe AS is likely headed for top 10 DOM all time. So incredibly stupid (spare me the responses AS lovers, won't change my opinion on this).
  19. Looking at the 8th biggest second weekend with that Sat. Insanity abounds.
  20. As far as your comments on AS, all I will say is that seems kind of silly to think of Kyle as an "amalgam" of soldiers, because he's not. He was a real person, not an amalgam. So if we are going to be nitpicking biopics for not portraying their historical people with enough accuracy, then AS should definitely be on trial too. You can find multiple accuracy complaints about it already, opposed to Selma which is basically just the LBJ portrayal.
  21. Haha, just saw that earlier today and I was thinking the whole time how the team involved must have had no idea what the hell they wanted to do with the film. The whole thing just hangs in the air like a cartoon word bubble that reads "..." And Aniston's performance is boring. So she can do a dramtic film, woopie! Didn't see anything that most of her contemporaries couldn't have done with ease.
  22. You hate the "inaccuracies" of Selma, but American Sniper is your #1 film?
  23. It's so much more affecting than 12YAS to me it's almost comical how much 12YAS feels like a "movie" and Selma actually feels like something very real. More importantly, Selma is a truly imperative film for the times we live in and speaks on a profound level in a past and modern context. Unlike 12YAS which can never seem to get its roots firmly out of the past and speak on a modern level. Been meaning to write a proper review since I saw this a few weeks ago, will have to get to it soon.
