  1. Not sure what film you saw. I thought it was stunning. I felt like I did when I saw Jurassic Park/Avatar for the first time. The movie was everything anyone could possibly want from a monsters vs robots picture.

I also compare it to Avatar...amazing 3D theater experience with no real big actors is leading roles, but a visually amazing ride etc. Unfortunately it's night and day at the bo though :(
  2. I don't know, Del Toro has a unique style of humor, and visuals for that matter.

I'd compare it to Hugo...I thought that was really good and it was great in 3D at the theater, but put countless other directors names in the credits and you're not questioning that it wasn't Scorsese. Not to say they world have made the same film and Scorsese made a really good movie and gets the credit, ala Del Toro for PR, but it doesn't have their same feel, etc.

  3. Completely disagree, He created the world and tone. The movie knew what it was and that's the number 1 thing a film like this needs to do.

That's not what meant though...I mean when the credits roll you could have slapped tons of other directors names there and not know the difference or question it, etc. Not that they would have made the same movie as Del Toro.
  4. Not quite sure how to interpret that. All of his previous films have been fun, in addition to having other great qualities to them.I have my own opinions and hearsay on why Del Toro made this, and my main issue is just that I don't like the fact he made this film to begin with.

Probably doesn't help you looking more forward to seeing it, but while I really liked PR and thought it was an awesome theater experience (even on only a liemax as opposed to real imax) and the sfx and sense of scope are amazing, there's really not much that makes it feel like a Del Toro movie the way Hellboy1/2 or Pans do, etc. You could slap tons of other directors name on this movie and not know the difference.
  5.

Random Fact about Spider-Man. WTF is up with that theater count? It kept the playing in the same amount of theaters for 6 weeks. It even increased on Week 4.

It was that huge, and things were different back then.  There wasn't a big/blockbuster movie almost every/every other week of the summer like there is now, so huge blockbusters like this were kept around longer.  TPM was the same thing in '99, 6 weeks of the same or more theater count (week 6 it was actually in more theaters than week 1!).  Closest since has been TDK, which had 4 weeks over 4,000 theater count, and Avatar, which increased its theater count in weeks 2 and 3 and hardly lost significant theaters in its first 2 months of release (but obviously its hard to compare Avatar to anything).

Wait, just checked and Titanic is stupid crazy...it increased its theater count every week for like 4 months! lol
