  1. It will be a bad year for comedy if this will be the highest grossing comedy of the year. This looks like it will make 115-120m. Men in Black 3 will beat this and that's just off the top of my head.
  2. I don't feel bad for Disney in the slightest for John Carter being a massive failure. The amount of money they make from everything else, this is just a slight hiccup. Park hopper ticket at Disneyland is around $100 now. My wallet takes a huge hit whenever I go to that place.
  3. Really? % wise this is not bad at all. If a film opened with 15.5m and it fell to 15.25m with actuals no one would give a shit or even notice. In the grand scheme of things, this fall down from estimates will have a minimal impact on everything.
  4. At least the Sunday number relatively stayed the same from the 35m revised estimate earlier this morning. Weekday expectations should remain the same.
  5. Just like TDK and DH2, the Friday number went down 1m from original estimates. But unlike those films it didn't have a better than expected Sunday to balance it out.
  6. :huh:What? A 69.5m weekend will be really good.
  7. This thing should easily out perform SM3 first set of weekdays. SM3 started its freefall mode at this point and still made 58m in its 2nd weekend off a 5.9m Thursday. THG should hold much better.11.2m Monday (-68%)12m Tuesday (+8%)9.4m Wednesday (-22%)8.9m Thursday (-5%)21.4m Friday (+140%)28.6m Saturday (+34%)19.5m (-32%)2nd weekend: 69.5m
  8. Night business must have really been off from yesterday. Oh well. Still an amazing opening. Let's hope it has good weekdays.
  9. You can thank the goodwill of SM1 and SM2 for that. SM3 would've made a shitload more if it was good.
  10. I didn't think the SM3 trailers were that bad. Not as good as SM2 which had one of the best trailers of all time. SM3's opening just shows that it was well on its way to 400m+ and be right up with those films attendance wise. But the film just wasn't that good and the result was it crashing and burning. Pity.
  11. It's funny though because I think the nostalgia from SM1 still carries over from people my age when comparing the SM films. I still think the first one is the best despite the critics love affair with the second one. Most people I ask agree with me. I think it was the one that just appealed to audiences the most.
  12. I was 10 when Spider-Man came out and my friends and I thought SM1 was the greatest thing ever haha. Everyone was talking about it. I guess I didn't think about what the older audiences thought of it. I just assumed its great BO and its impressive legs for such a huge opener that it must've been well liked.
  13. I thought Avatar was the most attended film since The Phantom Menace, something like 75m admissions. I think Shrek 2 is 71-72m. I actually thought Spider-Man 2 did really well, especially looking at its performance today, just couldn't match the original. And I always wonder how much more Clones and Sith would've made if The Phantom Menace was on par with the originals.
  14. The one thing I'm wondering is if there will be room for growth in this franchise. Or will this be like HP1, Spider-Man, and The Phantom Menace and be the highest grossing of the series. When a first film does this type of numbers it just begs the question if this is as good as it's gonna get. Or can it even do better?
  15. The worst of the books being split into two parts? Not sure how I feel about that.
  16. Yeah the theater I saw it at today was extremely crowded. My 2:40 probably had 99% capacity, pretty sure that's considered a sell out. A group of people decided to sit on the stairs because there weren't enough seats in a row to sit together. The theater even looked busier as we were leaving. Probably a few more sellouts or close to it.
  17. It's not out of the realm of possbility. We're all thinking it's in store for an increase. Question is how much?
  18. They've already revised it from 68.3m to 68m flat. Wonder if it will change again.
  19. Yes because it is Sunday "projections", not estimates. The 36m number is just what the studio projects it to make that morining. TDK, SM3, and Shrek 2 all saw increases on 3m+ from their original estimates becuase of excellent Sunday performances.
  20. Anything over 40m would be amazing. 45m would just be downright insane.
  21. Same thing happened to me. My showing was at 2:40 and we got there by 2:20. Theater was not very busy. Then a shitstorm of people kept crawling in. I blinked and the theater was damn near full. Walk ups for this film have been amazing.
  22. It's not just that. We're pointing out that business today isn't that much different from yesterday. Night business will take a hit but enough to fall 30%? That's the thing that is worth debating.
  23. Just got back from a 2:40 showing. It was PACKED! It might have been a sellout, nothing was left except a few scattered seats. And when I got out the theater was a lot busier in the lobby than when I got there so business definitely is continuing into the evening. This thing will definitely go up with actuals.
