  1. TASM has been unlucky this week. First, the typhoon didn't help at all. If the typhoon had stayed a little bit longer into Saturday, TASM could have made 4m for this weekend. Second, most theaters didn't schedule any 11 AM morning shows on the weekend which may have had a big impact on TASM's OW by $200,000-$300,000. It's still a very good OW but I think it could have made more this weekend if theaters had scheduled TASM like normal. Monday adm. July 2 Rank Title LW TW WKD % chg QD % chg 1 The Amazing Spider-Man 3D -- 63,411 -- -12.5% 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2D -- 17,372 -- +2.8% 3 Motorway -- 9,407 -- -13.4% 4 The Dictator -- 3,486 -- +31.9% 5 Men in Black 3 3D -- 2,277 -- +17.1% 4-day 3D admissions - 253,696 (80.95% 3D share) 4-day 2D admissions - 59,710 (19.05% 2D share) 4-day total admissions - 313,406 4-day OW estimate: 3.75m
  2. Monday is looking pretty good so far. I'd say there's a possibility for it to make 3.8m for the 4-day weekend.
  3. Avengers made 4.3m in 4 days. TASM will make a little bit less (around 3.7m). It will do better than Spider-Man 3's 5-day OW though (3.73m).Right now, TASM is fighting with Harry Potter 7-2 for 3rd biggest 4-day OW of all time. If it has a good hold on Monday then it will take it.
  4. Admissions have been pretty useless this week but here they are. Sunday adm. 5. Right because all those are well known superheroes. And funny that you think that Spider-Man will fail because critics are not enthusiastically giddy about the movie even though the majority support this new version. Nice argument there.
  6. 3.5m OW/10.5m totalI think Batman has a shot of breaking the 2D OW record (Kung Fu Hustle - 3.2m) and it should break the 2D record as well (also KFH - 8.1m). If IMAX pre-sales are any indication, this will be very big.
  7. Who cares about critics. People will go see Spider-Man for the brand. Critics have very little weight when it comes to the GA going to see a superhero movie.
  8. I think all the backlash stemming from SM3 and Ted/MM's numbers means that TASM will start off lower but will have much better legs as people rave about the movie.
  9. Yes. Normally I hate 3D because it's blurry but the 3D in TASM (like in Prometheus) is clear and highlights the action scenes very well.Red EPIC cameras are the real deal.
  10. I loved this. An easy A. Acting, story, direction, special effects, action are all great. The action scenes are very crisp and 3D only enhances these scenes. Easily one of the best movies of the year. (9.5/10)
  11. Yes, I did. It's an amazing movie and I enjoyed it a lot.
  12. No, Monday's a holiday as well because the July 1 holiday fell on a Sunday so we get an extra holiday for compensation.
  13. Similar to what I expected a day ago.Now let's see if the holiday can really ramp up its admissions. I would be ecstatic if it broke out with 1.4m.
  14. Saturday adm. June 30 Rank Title LW TW WKD % chg QD % chg 1 The Amazing Spider-Man 3D -- 65,231 -- +24.1% 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2D -- 13,532 -- +13.7% 3 Motorway -- 9,713 -- +35.7% 4 The Dictator -- 2,319 -- +29.8% 5 Silenced -- 1,592 -- -- Before anyone starts going on about how TASM increased only by a small percentage, let me point out that the admissions website lost over 10,000 admissions yesterday for the 3D version of TASM. It's probably closer to more than 15,000 admissions lost. 2D version also saw admissions disappear in the middle of the day. There's no explanation as to how it happened. In reality, 3D admissions is closer to 80-85k for the day, maybe even 90k. 2D admissions could have made up to 20,000. With data lost, it's hard to predict but I'm estimating that TASM's opening Saturday is about $950,000. Very good for Motorway. Sunday adm. (so far) July 1 Rank Title LW TW WKD % chg QD % chg 1 The Amazing Spider-Man 3D -- 36,860 -- +17.0% 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2D -- 8,232 -- +65.6% 3 Motorway -- 3,956 -- +61.3% 4 Men in Black 3 3D -- 876 -- -- 5 Prometheus 3D -- 794 -- +118.1% I expect at least 100,000 admissions today for the 3D version of The Amazing Spider-Man. Have to commend Motorway. It is doing very well even though Spider-Man is clobbering everything.
  15. Yeah but TA had no competition before its release. For a market like HK where theaters are small, competition is key. Look what happened to Harry Potter 7-2 and Kung Fu Panda 2. Harry Potter 7-2 had an outstanding OW but competition from Mr. Popper's Penguins and Transformers 3 softened its OW. Kung Fu Panda 2 had a disappointing run and HK became one of its lowest Asian territories. If the roles were reversed and Harry Potter 7-2/Transformers 3 switched release dates, Harry Potter 7-2 would have ended up taking the OW record.Typhoon or not, Motorway surprised last week. This week, it's holding up well in the face of TASM opening. I'd say The Amazing Spider-Man is doing exceptionally well given how Motorway has done so far. Also, the typhoon had little impact on admissions. The high warning signal never occurred during theater operating hours so I fail to see how this typhoon actually helped Amazing Spider-Man.
  16. I actually am calling for it to make more than 3.5m. The 3m OW I was referring to was the OD pre-sales admissions which confirm it would make more than 3m OW.
  17. TA was coming off of a 3 month weekend low. TASM was coming off of a fairly good weekend. Also, OW holiday means less admissions on opening day.Admissions will pick up a lot this weekend.
  18. Amazing Spider-Man OD: Between $600,000-$650,000 (no actual given) That is pretty good. While Amazing won't reach the likes of The Avengers/Transformers 3, it should settle somewhere in the HP 7-2 area.
