Is the weather that big a deal in the UK Box Office? It seems like it can make-or-break certain totals.
Definitely is. Same as Germany and other European countries.
Generally during hot and sunny periods of weather cinemas are quieter, especially the first few hot spells of summer. During rainy and cooler periods cinemas do very well. Obviously this is only a summer phenomenon. The rest of the year the weather has little to no impact.

Weekend
Spider-Verse £4.06m
Transformers £2.46m
TLM £2.12m
GotG £512k
Fast X £475k
Actually decent for Spiderverse considering the weather. Fri-sun is down just over 50%, same for TLM. Assuming films recovered a bit yesterday afternoon/evening due to thunderstorms.
Awful for Transformers, the franchise is dead here. Might struggle for even £10m.

@Krissykins I know last Friday was holiday but both the little mermaid and spider verse are going to need big Saturday jumps in order to drop under 60 percent and that’s not gonna happen it just feels like overseas box office in general for the last few films have been really underwhelming or just bad like transformers is supposed to be an overseas skewing franchise yet I don’t even know If rise of the beasts is gonna make that much more than domestic box office for rise of the beasts
1. Spiderverse and TLM are doing very well here comparitavely speaking .Especially Spiderverse.
2. Transformers franchise is dead here. Just like F&F. These films only do well in developing markets these days, and even there their popularity is declining.
3. Weather is too good for cinema. It’s likely having a significant impact on boxoffice.
Having said that, we’ll probably still see decent jumps today compared to last week as there were no school holidays yesterday.

TF will barely pass £3m, it’s done here.
Weather is looking hot and sunny this weekend so expecting muted bumps again.

£9m prediction turned out spot on @Heretic, curious too see how it'll hold on weekdays. Are schools off and any other factors?
I believe most schools are back this week so no more holidays until later in July when they break up for summer.
Having said that, I think Spiderverse will play decently during the week and not the same as most other animated films given it is skewing older.
Could be a close race for number 1 this weekend as don’t expect Transformers to do particularly well, it’s popularity like much of Europe/US has massively declined. Similar to F&F really.
Only other factor is the weather, which given the forecasts for the weekend looks to be hotting up, although some rain is also forecast which might help.
-
Wow very muted Saturday again. Weather must be playing a very big factor also.
Looks more like £9m opening for Spiderverse. Still a great opening. Good weather looks set to continue for the foreseeable, and next weekend actually looks hotter.
-
I would also say, now that the weather is good, cinema is definitely not the top choice of entertainment for a lot of people. So many festivals, concerts etc happening this weekend, and outdoor areas are packed full of people.
Still, Spiderverse is having a great opening.

Also FA Cup?
Yeah also FA cup final today

definitely going to be down today. don't think it'll manage £3m even, unless late night business is very strong.
I guess not surprising given school holidays and also the good weather it has to contend with.
Late night business does look strong, at least in London. Vue Stratford is sold out up to 10pm with even shows past 11pm likely to sell out, which is exceptional for an animated film

I'd say 9.5-10M+
Probably, depends on today’s hold.
Something like this for £10m:
Previews 0.8m
Fri: 3.5m
Sat: 3.2m
Sun: 2.5m
If Saturday manages to increase slightly, then £11m comes into play.
-
That is excellent for Spiderverse. OW will top the entire run of the first film.
Think today will maybe stay more or less flat or even drop a little bit due to school holidays, but looking at £9-10m opening.
-
Reckon TLM will have a strong hold, looked pretty busy from what I saw today

north of £3m today
Huge! Had a strong feeling it was going to explode after seeing presales this morning

£811k yesterday
Very good considering only a few shows in most places.
Expecting at least 3x this today.
-
Probably not a reflection of the entire country, but presales for today at Vue Stratford in East London are utterly INSANE.
Virtually every single showing from the first one at 10:50am until the 9pm showing is sold out (15 shows). Unbelievable. Don’t think I’ve seen anything like it for an animated film tbh

Should have a decent week with holidays, probably near £15m by Sunday
-
Think tomorrow could be the strongest day. Looks a bit cooler and cloudier than it has this weekend. And I reckon it’ll stay fairly flat throughout the week too.
-
Yep, not surprised, weather is very sunny this weekend. Also there is no rush as it’s school holidays next week here.
-
So looks like maybe £5.5m opening, with bank holiday Monday should top £7m and it’s school holidays this upcoming week so should have good weekdays.
Weather is looking very good for the foreseeable though so will impact BO for sure.

What is the OW expectations for Mermaid. 5m or 10m range?
Probably nearer £5m tbh, but it is another bank holiday weekend so all schools are off on Monday.
However, another sunny weekend forecast so might impact BO.

This is good weather?
Yesterday was good and it’s sunny across most of country today, just not London lol
But come on you’re a Brit, 20 degrees and a bit of sun is all we need
-
Fast franchise is way past its peak here.
However, I would also put this partly down to the good weather across most of the country as Saturday increases are very muted.
-
This looks fucking great, I am there day one

-
Not surprising I guess as the weather was amazing yesterday.
Complete opposite today, an increase looks likely, maybe close to £4m

What are we thinking for The Flash 5 day opening?
Pre-sales don’t look great, but also not terrible. Maybe it can get close to £10m for the 5 day.
