  1. Thank you. You know, I don't want to turn anyone into a Whitney fan, she has plenty of them already. But it's annoying watching a true superstar who's movies have averaged 147 million as an actress (adjusted) and 137 million as a producer (adjusted) being put down and being underrated on this board. If you guys are really fans of "box office" you should be excited and wanting to see Whitney succeed with a project that has 100 times more class than Expendables 2 or some other movies which are focused on killing as many people as possible in the most violent way possible. You guys always talk about how box office is struggling, so why not want Sparkle to do well? It's almost as if some of you are rooting against her or trying to find every way possible to put her down. But hey, I guess the bigger superstar you are, the more haters you will get. She's done it all already, her new project Sparkle as an actress/producer/singer will be just icing on the cake.
  2. Million Dollar Bill was top 5 in the UK. When did Madonna have a big hit in the USA last? Was it the song when she used Justin Timberlake as her duet partner in order to get airplay? Whitney doesn't care about "hits" and selling out. She titled her last album after a gospel song "I Look to You", and in this upcoming Sparkle movie she plays a gospel singer, and in her last movie Preacher's Wife she played again a gospel singer. She's hardly concerned about being relevant, but rather about doing what she loves. The point is, she sells based on her name. If she was trying to be "relevant", she would not being making these choices. Whatever Whitney did, she kept her music mature and age appropriate unlike females like Mariah or Madonna who try to compete with 16 yrs old. Whitney Houston is like Barbra Streisand, a true superstar who does mature work. As for her last tour, her voice was bad, but she still sang Live all the way, unlike her rivals who lipsynch most of their shows. And her tour was sold out in Europe, Australia, Russia, etc. She simply didn't tour in the usa (because of voice problems), which made her overall tour numbers smaller, but it was successful she got people in the seats and was sold out wherever she went. Anyway, it's sad that Whitney is still underrated to this day, but maybe after Sparkle debuts next week some of you will finally get what real star power is all about. And I don't care about the "death factor" cause everyone knows she's dead and are still predicting 30-40 million totals with a 10-15 million weekend. In fact most Whitney fans agree that if she were alive and promoting this movie, it would probably be even more successful. And finally? Who gets 2 full shows on Oprah? Only Whitney. That's your answer right there on what a legend she is. I'm just tired of having to defend her huge accomplishements, I don't know what some of you want her to do in order to give her respect. She did it all. Selling 1 million copies in the USA in recent years is not a joke, Madonna's MDNA hasn't reached 500k in the USA and 175k out of those sales were cds included free with concert tickets. So please, nobody is selling more than this except Adele who's at her peak. But Whitney at her peak already proved that she was the best. And I want to add that Whitney being relevant can be seen every year on shows like American Idol and X Factor as she is the most covered singer of all-time on both shows. Now that's "relevance" and she will continue to be relevant as every current artist or aspiring talent names her as their idol. She's the best and people will celebrate her again with Sparkle.
  3. Yeah, next week will actually be huge with Expendables 2, Sparkle and Paranorman. It's gonna be a huge exciting weekend. After that, it's gonna be very quiet.
  4. Sparkle is not in competition with Bourne. It has a 17 million budget compared to what 100 million budget or so? And they have totally different audiences. I compared Sparkle to Hope Springs and how most of you including boxoffice.com will end up making a huge mistake with your predictions. The point is, don't use the "likes" of Bourne when comparing to Sparkle because those "likes" for Bourne include an accumulation from all prior Bourne movies and years of existence. Sparkle's total is just recent for this movie alone. I expect Sparkle to do at least 30+ million opening weekend, which would bring it close to most of people's predicted TOTAL for it. You'll see
  5. But they already had over 1.5 million followers BEFORE the new Bourne movie, that's my point, it's "likes" throughout the years for ALL bourne movies including the new one. So Sparkle's total is impressive compared to ALL the 4 movie Bourne FRANCHISE.
  6. That's a facebook page from years ago that combines ALL bourne movies from all the old ones to the new one. Check the date of creation. Get a clue. lol
  7. Her last album 2 years ago I Look to You sold over 3 million copies worldwide which made it one of the biggest selling of the year, just based on her name alone without any radio support. Whitney will always be a megastar. Why do you think her funeral was televised? Why did CNN talk about her death non-stop for 2 weeks 24-hour a day? Get a clue. lol
  8. No Tyler Perry movie or even something like Think Like A Man has ever been released internationally, that's what happens for most black movies. The fact that Sparkle DOES have many OS dates scheduled (obviously because of Whitney) is actually a GOOD sign.
  9. She obviously means 16.5 for the 5 day. It's funny how many of you were saying that Hope Springs would reach 100 million total, and even boxoffice.com predicted 106 million total. Yet for Whitney, it's the opposite, many of you guys including boxoffice.com are predicting a big pathetic Total in the 35 million range for Sparkle, when Whitney averages 147 million per movie adjusted domestic. It was a nice thought to pick a non-action breakout film for the late summer, but you guys just picked the wrong movie... you'll see next week P.S: I don't want to disrespect Meryl Streep she is perhaps the most "talented" actress out there, but Whitney is a megastar with huge star power. Two different things. Quote this post! Anyways I guess I'm disappointed in the overall disrespect for Whitney, but her numbers will shut everyone up once and for all despite being played in only 2,200 theaters. I can't wait!
  10. I'm the only one in the weekend predictions thread who said that Step Up will beat the Watch... Thank you... Thank you very much
  11. Variety just issued a statement that WB will not release any numbers concerning the box office of TDKR and that they will pull the movie out of theaters on thurdsay 2nd august. So we'll never kow!!!
  12. I don't know why you guys feel lucky when there are no trailers. I actually look forward to seeing movie trailers being played before movies, and enjoy them. It's not as if they stay for like an hour, maybe 10-15 minutes but it's still kind of fun to watch them. I'm surprised to learn that sometimes they put zero trailers (it never happened to me) but even more surprised that many people are happy about it. I personally enjoy watching them on the big screen, and putting them definitely helps the box office situation as they promote for people to watch more movies.
  13. I agree with you on some level. But what about the promo of EXP2, won't studios and tv channels try to be more sensitive with violent movies like that? Will they still air over the top violent promotion for it? And add the fact that Sly lost his son recently, I'm sure a movie where hundreds die in it seems kind of weird/wrong to him, or at least not as fun/exciting.
  14. Well those 2 movies already had their big runs before the tragedy. We will see the effect of the shooting on the box office in the next few weeks, especially opening weekends of movies like Bourne Legacy, Expendables 2, etc. I think the over the top violence nature of these movies might now be less appealing for audiences so soon after the tragedy, and I wonder how their studios will promote them.
  15. As someone who doesn't care much about TDK franchise, I have to say that the shooting definitely had a negative effect on its box office, and to a lesser extent other movies. Of course the fans will watch it, but those who were simply curious might either pass or wait until the crowds get smaller in a few weeks. I expect the movie to even go lower from the current weekend predictions.
  16. But most people will be at work and will watch the reruns of the opening show in the evening.
  17. Dont forget that Warner Bros seems to be doing less promo now on tv and in theaters because of the shooting.
  18. i have a feeling the tragedy will affect box office in general, at least for a few weeks. People will just not rush to see a movie on opening weekend when it's crowded, especially for action movies
  19. I'm also disgusted on how the media started reporting that it was an indian man or arabic man or whatever before there were any details. I guess racism will always exist.
  20. come on, did WB really have time to send a new trailer to all the theaters nationwide? And if they could, would that prevent some theaters from not noticing fast enough and still playing the old one for a while? jeez
  21. Wow this is horrible news Some crazy people out there Will I be able to not think about this the next time I go to a theater? It's just awful.
