  1. Honestly I don't how it became this big. I mean, I've given many factors that might have made Frozen a huge success in Japan, but those are only able to get it to $100m or so, not $200m. I understand why Spirited Away made that much. Titanic and Harry Potter are bigger phenomenons worldwide, and they performed similarly in other countries, so I get that too. But Frozen? It's still a mystery for me.
  2. That's actually not unusual. Many Hollywood movies didn't get theatrical releases, especially comedy and sometimes animated films. For example, The Croods wasn't released in Japan.
  3. Yes, it's gonna be released in late July (on the 25th I think), a great release date.
  4. 100k already! Woohoo! So that means probably close to its OW in only one day?
  5. Congrats Frozen for entering the top 10 of all time list in Japan! And wow Labas, you were right, today is even crazier than Sunday! 60683 from Toho!!
  6. Yeah, even with Iron Man's rising popularity (thanks to The Avengers, Iron Man 3 is now the biggest movie of all time) I think Spidey is still the most popular superhero here. He has always been. I did a little research and found out that the first 3 Spider-Man movies all became the #1 movie of the year, and Spider-Man 3 was the biggest movie of all time from 2007 to 2009. Spidey was beaten by The Avengers in 2012, but still managed to be the 2nd biggest movie that year.
  7. Finally, a number from Indonesia! $5.2m is huge! According to my note, IM3 4-day OW was $5.3m. I hope it can break IM3's all time record ($15,308,150). Actually they were still tracking Indonesia until May 2013. The last movie that they tracked was The Hangover Part III which was released on May 31, 2013. After that, suddenly no updates anymore. And it got worse, because the numbers for 2013 are all gone from the site. That's why the last update that you can find right now is from 2012.
  8. The bump happened because of Golden Week, a week with a lot of national holidays. This weekend alone there are 4 national holidays in a row (Sat-Tue). Golden Week has been one of the biggest periods for Japanese box office because of this. As for why it has a bigger bump than others, well, because it's Frozen . But seriously, Frozen has become a once-in-a-decade phenomenon there, or even more than that, it's constantly in the media, the singalong is a success, the soundtrack is huge, its popularity is like a snowball, getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
  9. Hmm.. I think it's actually the opposite, especially for South America. Animations are HUGE there. For example, according to BOM, in Venezuela, animated films have always been the #1 movie of the year since 2008 (except 2013 where Frozen is #2). In 2012, 4 of the yearly top 5 were animated films, and in 2010, the whole top 3 were animated films with Tangled at #1. The same with Argentina. Since 2004, the #1 movie of the year are all animated films (except in 2007 & 2009). I mean even Cars 2 was the biggest 2011 film there! Similar thing in other countries like Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. If I'm not mistaken, in Mexico Toy Story 3 is one of the biggest films of all time.
  10. Labas said the presales for tomorrow looked stronger. So yeah, I think it will be bigger.
  11. $25.52 was exactly my number before it was taken lol. But I think Frozen is underestimated again. More like $26.3 or something. Olive or kingslayer will win, or me if it's higher, or Queen Elsa if it's lower. We'll have to wait for the actuals.
  12. The ratings were great for the first few episodes. But they declined rapidly because the earlier episodes were awful, and the characters were boring. It stays boring until the 13th or 14th episode where the story finally picked up and now IMO it's getting very very good. They were obviously aiming for the story in CA2, but couldn't go there yet because they had to wait for the movie. Now the ratings are stable, but still can't reach the height in the beginning.
  13. Yes, that's what I meant lol. Sorry for that. But I think the actual numbers in yen won't be reported until after GW ends, which is Wednesday. That's too long.
  14. I just realized this. Even the Japanese reports are confusing. They said Frozen has grossed 12.87b yen as of Tues, and 13.3b yen as of Fri. I doubt Frozen only made 430m yen on Wed + Thurs.
  15. Yes, the programmer said that some data from 109 were lost, 19 showtimes yesterday, and 12 showtimes today, mainly for the morning shows. There might be data lost again in the future so right now he's fixing the program. He also said that he had spare time on GW so he made a new program to get the data from Movix chain. He will upload those Movix data starting tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. The program to get admission data from Toho, that we're using now, was also made during GW, exactly 1 year ago.
  16. Like everybody said, Friday is not included. That google translate is pretty good actually. The Japanes source correct translation is "On May 3, we found out that Anna & the Snow Queen (that's Frozen) has grossed 13.3 billion yen as of May 1". So mfantin65 estimations are very close. If you consider the exchange rates daily, they're pretty spot on.
  17. Can't wait for that day! Btw, it's not that bad for TASM2. IM3 opened on the same weekend last year with similar 2-day and 3-day OW and it dropped 13% in its 2nd weekend. So I think TSAM2 will have around the same drop and maybe a similar total too.
  18. For the first film, IMO the first half was interesting and funny, but the second half was just bad and too weird. A lot of Japanese jokes that could be lost in translation, so those who don't understand Japanese would find them unfunny. I think overall it's just a mindless comedy. I don't know about the sequel though. It's just the number as of 7pm local time. It's gonna be bigger for the whole day.
  19. Frozen!! My $10m weekend prediction might be too low! But my $26.67m week prediction looks good. Btw, after the deluxe version of Frozen soundtrack was released, the sales increased from 2,000-ish on Thursday to 67,045 on Friday. Gonna be #1 on next week's Oricon weekly album chart with probably a bigger sales than in the US.
  20. The deluxe version of Frozen soundtrack which includes all of the Japanese version of the songs is officially released this Saturday, but has been available in CD stores since Friday. In just one day, there were already sell out reports from various stores. Btw my prediction for the weekend is 10.10m.
  21. It's gonna be huge too here in Indonesia. In the theater that I usually go to, this weekend TASM2 has 37 showtimes in one day!
