I have just one daughter. She was only 4.5 at that time. She just loved the score. She did get scared with one scene in BB though during her first time watching it. Other than than she did love the movie.

I watched it for the second time with my 11 year old daughter.The movie seemed more lethargic the second time around. Too many unwanted scenes mar the movie. It would have be an excellent movie with 40 minutes trimmed off and a better story. Bane was just awful. He reminded me of Humungus from Mad Max 2 way too much.The Batman entry scene is fantastic. I love the scene where he picks up the wireless transmitter and then turns around to watch the GPD cops arrive at the scene. That part is electrifying. The rest not so much. Batman is serioulsy missing in this movie for way too long.My daughter and I watched Batman Begins 7 times, six of those times at the Palms Imax in Las Vegas..I wanted to stress the fact that My Daughter and I loved BB, As far as TDKR goes, she did like parts of the movie a lot, but got bored with the rest.I would still rate it a B

Unless TDKR develops some extraordinary late legs, the most it will gross is $550 M (excluding China). I would have to say at this point $700M is out, unless TDKR does an Avatar in China.It shouls still end up with a gross around $600M, which is excellent.

I would not want to comment on your IQ given your posts over the past several months on The Avengers and some other movies.. A movie with supposed out-of the world tracking/trending number like TDKR barely beat out unadjusted midnight number for Eclipse and in the middle of July. That alone was a great indicator that TDKR was NOT going to set any records on OD.

But again, early Friday projections were just that, projections. Some movies overperform compared to early projectons and some underperform.Projections are no different than predictions for that matter, the only difference being some range can be established using the early projections. The Avengers early projections for OD were in the upper 60s. The early projections for Eclipse was as high as 80M. It ended up with $72M. So you have to take early projections with a grain of salt. Even in the best case scenario, they are bound to be very approximate.

But the midnight gross proved that it was not even close to setting all-time records and that was before the shooting. If anything, it did not even beat ticket sales of Eclipse. So stating that TDKR would have done upper 80's 90s and 100 million on opeining day is nothing more than a fanboy dream.

Much lower than expected for TDKR. I wonder if the opening ceremony did have an impact. We will know if it did based on Saturday's increase.

The movie's net (After Ent tax) is about $4.5M. That means TDKR ended up with a gross of around $6M for the week in India. That is very good.

I agree with your 3 points. But the biggest difference b/w BB and TDKR or for that matter TDK is the focus. BB is all about Batman and TDKR is a Batman movie about a few others with Batman again taking a back seat.

If the tone were more closer to Batman Begins (Depth with better script), this movie could have surpassed POTC$/TF3's 3D assisted grosses also.

redfirebird2008 has assessed it correctly in the box office thread regarding TDKR's heavy content. While a segment of the population may truly enjoy TDKR, its dark content may keep the masses from supporting in a big way keeping it from reaching heights reached by below average movies like POTC4.

Baumer and several others had it around $460M prior to its release also. Some people probably did think that TDKR would not approach TDK's gross even prior to the release.

I believed that also. But the pre-sales hype was so high that it may have given some people false hopes.

Those are smaller markets. So the impact should be minimal.

With TDKR a few notches lower than TDK in quality for the general audiences, a lower gross for TDKR should have been anticipated even without the tragedy. Part of the problem was that the pre-sales were hyped way too much and that made people think that TDKR would have had a bigger gross than TDK and may be get closer to TA.I knew those notions were false once we got the midnight number..

While there is definitely an impact, there was almost no chance that TDKR would surpass The Avengers even without the tragedy. The difference between the two would be too big for TDKR to overcome.

True. TASM's performance was not a surprise. TA and TDKR are pleasant surprises with their awesome grosses.
