Ek Villian To Fall Short Of 100 Crore Nett

Ek Villian dropped badly in the third weekend and the week is heading for business around 3.50 crore nett which will take it to around 97 crore nett after three weeks. The drop is around 85% from the previous weekend as a major film like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania released.

The film will now not reach the 100 crore nett mark and finish at around the 98 crore nett mark. It will join films like Singham, Race 2, Grand Masti, Raajneeti and Talaash will which finished in that 90-100 crore nett range.

The film had an excellent opening but has not sustained too well. Delhi and Punjab sustained fairly well but the rest starting showing noticeable drops from the first Monday onwards. Still due to the huge initial and reasonable costs it is a Super Hit film and possibly the biggest hit of the first half of 2014.

Next week realeasing is the first true blockbuster of the year, Kick. Eid and Salman Khan make a formidable combination and movies tend to be big hits no matter how crappy they are. A look at the past performance of Salman's Eid releases:2009 - Wanted: 63 Cr2010 - Dabangg: 140 Cr2011 - Bodyguard: 145 Cr2012 - Ek Tha Tiger: 190CrThere was no Salman release on Eid in 2013, so Shahrukh took advantage and Chennai Express grossed 210 crore.Looking just at the trend, Kick looks set for 200 crore. Buzz is very high, so the opening will no doubt be phenomenal. And Salman fans don't give a shit about quality, so they will be back no matter how shitty the film is.However, I have full confidence that the movie will turn out to be shit and that will prevent it from going over 250 crore.

Who cares for quality in a Salman Khan film. Eid = Salman. It will be a big disappointment if it doesn't cross 200 Cr. Since the film has been sold for high prices across the country, it will have to do very strong business unless distributors will have to incur huge loss.

Hate Story 2 had an average opening at single screens while multiplexes were lower but still reasonable for this type of film which is mainly for single screens. The multiplex opening is as expected but the single screens could have been better which would have helped its cause. A release just a week or so before Eid does not really help a film which targets the single screen audience.
