Not a fan of the happy ending at all, but for most of its runtime it's a smart and intense movie with one of the most interesting and fully realized visions of a near future in all sci-fi cinema. Spielberg's at the top of his game as an action director.

A really smart, thought provoking thriller with some great visuals and effective performances. I miss Spielberg's big summer blockbusters.

It's not a happy ending. People read it wrong just like Pre-Crime detectives can be lured by Lamar Burgess and misjudge the pictures they are presented trying to edit a narrative out of them that is not always the reality nor the truth.

All of the set pieces

Tom Cruise chasing his eyeballs down a corridor

The cinematography

Samantha Morton's performance

The general 'out there'-ness of it all for a major studio summer picture

Things not to love:

Product placement (hello Gap)

The gaps in logic, the plot holes, the obvious twist, and yet again another Spielberg film going for too long, last 30 minutes actually undermines the movie's point, which I found to be flawed at best, makes the movie hard to stomach. 

 

MR (partly) works solely because of Spielberg and his absolute mastery of the craft. The setpieces are not great though, very unimaginative and tension-free, save for that spiders sequence.

 

Solid enough if I don't think too much about it.
