From Screendaily:

PPI’s fourth Mission: Impossible episode faces its stiffest test yet from WBPI’s Holmes sequel as it reaches $254m outside North America.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol has ruled the international waves for the past three weekends and is the frontrunner to claim the crown again. It stands at $401m worldwide factoring in the $147m North American haul and opens in Argentina.

However Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows (pictured) ran its rival close last weekend and on $106m Warner Bros Pictures International will look to build with debuts set for Australia and Spain.

Fox International meanwhile is occupied with an alien invasion in the form of The Darkest Hour, which has amassed $8.3m. The mayhem touches down in around a dozen markets including South Korea, Taiwan and Sweden.

Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked stands at $87.8m and should have a big weekend in store with debuts in Brazil, Italy and Argentina. The Iron Lady opens in the UK.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture International (WDSMPI) Pictures International launches War Horse on $5.6m in Brazil. Fright Night opens in Japan and has amassed $24.9m. From Up On Poppy Hill opens in France Jan on 4 2012
