I enjoy seeing a good biography and this was a good one.  It doesn't hurt that Seyfried is gorgeous and seeing her play a porn actress is easy on the eyes.  But beyond that her performance here is fantastic as is Peter Sarsgard as her sleazy and immoral husband who sees her as nothing but a dollar sign and eventually puts her into prostitution against her will. 

 

It's a fascinating film.

I didn't think it was particularly good. It's not horrible, but it doesn't do anything to distinguish itself, and IMO it takes the easy way by presenting a quick-n-dirty he said/she said angle without trying to achieve any sort of resolution. I also found the end title with the "fact" about the DEEPTHROAT grosses really dubious and indicative of some of the films problems as a whole. It's presented as fact when it's basically a big fabrication.

Well, the 600 million number has never been proven because the mob ran the film studio.  But the same complaint was made about Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974).  The money used from Deepthroat was used to finance TCM and it was so heavily controlled by the mob that no one knows how much it made as well, but according to many reports, it was as high as 200 million.  But no one knows because of all the corruption involved.

Point being, it wasn't remotely close to 600 million, but that didn't stop the filmmakers from willfully using that amount.

Yeah, why not simply say it's one of the most successful independent films ever, porn or otherwise?
